Want a system to play music and dvd's.

I have a smallish living room and don't want wires all over the place as well as an overpowering sub-woofer. I would like to get a reasonably good sounding pseudo-surround from two speakers. I know these effects are not as good as 'the real thing' of 5.1 speakers but that is the compromise I am willing to make.

The TEAC DR-300DAB micro looks like a great solution but I've read that the DVD picture when upscaled to 1080 isn't very good. Also, I don't know for sure if it can produce a psedo-surround effect. The other option is the ONKYO 815 micro but that doesn't have a DAB radio and doesn't upscale.

Is there anything else out there like this that uses 2 channels?

Is an a/v receiver with DAB + 2 good speakers and dvd player the answer?

Any decent mini system with a pair of ordinary hifi speakers will sound better than most TV speakers.
Thats precisely what we use in the living room. A Denon DM31 and a pair of MS 902's.
The digital box, and the DVD player are both connected to the 2 extra inputs in the back of this system.

Its absolutely great for normal day to day watching TV, and blows the TV's own sound into the weeds.
In all honesty we use this far more than the better, more expensive 5.1 system upstairs.
