The main issue I found was having to manually adjust the stereo amp to match the output of the AVR. It's fuss free with a single AVR who can do all this.

oh ok, I was under the impression you fixed this and it synced up automatically?

Bigboss which Atmos amp would you recommend for me as I will have a 5.1.4 system once my rear speakers are wall mounted?

In the meantime I will be using my Pioneer 83 in 9.1 configuration with front ceiling speakers used as front heights and rear ceiling speakers as surround backs until I upgrade my amp.

So was I, and maybe that's why bigboss is so keen on a one-box 11.2 receiver. I run what is essentially a 11.1 Audyssey system (a regular 7.1 but with two front height and two front wide speakers) with my 9.2 Denon AVR-4810 receiver and an extra stereo amplifier to drive the front wide speakers. I do NOT have to manually adjust the output of the stereo amplifier, it is under the control of the Denon as I adjust the volume on that.

It was tricky to set up, and my stereo amplifier behaves differently to logic. Normally, you would leave the volume knob at 12 o' clock position for the AVR to sync. But in my case, I have set it up to 2 o' clock position. It probably syncs, but since I listen at same volume for blu ray movies, I haven't noticed any issues.

If you like Pioneer sound, go for LX59 upwards. They all are 9.2 channel amps. Marantz SR7010 is cheaper. Even Denon X7200W is very good.

In that thread, I think that the person who wrote post #19 (and, to be fair, the authors of #21 and #22 also) is very wise!

Most home cinemas are in the lounge, (They have to blend in with the rest of the lounge)

This bit I agree with. My parlour system doesn't stop the normal functioning of the room, and for that matter my kitchen and bedroom systems still allow those rooms their normal purposes. Not many people have a dedicated home cinema room such as bigboss has (I've seen it, and it's great!).

therefore there are very few cases where a 7.1.4 system is possible, thus an 11 channel receiver is overkill.

Totally agree few have either the space or pocket to do this and visually it will look awful. Completely ridiculous idea aimed at a microscopic section of the public

I don't agree with this bit. In my parlour, which measures only 18'2" by 14'3", it's not huge, the only speakers that people generally notice are the front left and right pair and the surround left and right pair, (because they are about a metre tall and a foot square in cross-section) and the SVS PC13-Ultra subwoofer, because it's four feet tall. All the other speakers in the essentially 11.1 system are less than a foot high, and people don't notice them unless I point them out to my visitors. On my kitchen the same applies, only front and surround left and right speakers are generally noticed. Visually, it does not look awful. People may choose not to have eight or more speakers in a domestic system but that doesn't mean that it can't be tastefully done.

Ok cheers, I was considering the 89 though apparently the Atmos speaker terminals on the rear are labelled confusingly/incorrectly?

Waiting to see if a replacement will be announced soon though conscious it would be an Onkyo amp with a Pioneer badge on it. Also considering the Yamaha 3050 for a change.
