I've just had a demo today. I tested the kef 3005SE (£999) with Onkyo 606 (£400), Denon AVR1909 (£450) and Yamaha 863SE (£600). They sounded good with the Denon but with the Yamaha it sounded awesome. I tested it with blu ray and CD's and I was staggerd with the detail, width of soundstage and timing. Based on what I heard I would thoroughly reccomend this set up. i will be placing an order next week!

With that budget you 've got some great options depending on room size and layout, i would opt for the B and W range something like the 685 and Onkyo 875 for £1800 you can also mix and match from the different ranges 863, 864, or even just buy the centre, fronts and sub and add some MT30 satellites for the rears and wall mount them. Other options Tannoy F4 Customs and F1 customs for £800 F4 being floorstanders. I think if you've got the room go for the traditional packages, if not than the Kef 3005se or the B and W MT-30 would be your best bet

I have just spent exactly £2k on what you are looking for.

Are you including speaker cables and interconnects and any stands in the price?

I purchased

Kef KHT3005SE plus 4 floor stands

Onkyo TX-SR606

Panasonic DMP-BD30

2 x hdmi cables, 20 meters qed speaker cables all for a deal price of £2k

The floor stands and the cables are £454 of the total cost, leaving £1546 for the three components.

Visit the Awards pages and have fun matching up systems depending on whether you want full sized speaker or style (small) speakers. My personal choice would be the B&W MT-30 or the 685 series set. Then get a mid range receiver like the highly rated Yamaha 863 or Denon 2809 or Onkyo 875 and add in a blu-ray player like the Pana 55 or Sony 350. Or get a DVD player like the Denon 1940. You should be able to get a pretty good system for your budget.
