Earsonics SM3 V2 - easily the best in ear phones i ever tried under £500 - they are available for £279 from hifiheadphones.co.uk Super triple balanced armature drivers - the midrange is unbelievably good - really punchy yet detail.

I would try the Earsonics SM3 V2. I own them and they are superb. A lush thick midrange which sounds great with guitar based music. They are also really comfortable too. They can be had for about £275 new. I find they sound better than Shure especially in the treble.

If money is no object then i highly recommend the Westone W80. I own a pair and they are amazing. They cost £1200 and to my ears are worth every penny. If you want something cheaper then I also recommend the Earsonices SM3 V2.

I use Westone W80s but they are £1200. Check out the W60 which is in your budget. Westone sound signature is amazing and the fit is so comfortable. Also check out head-fi.org

Get a Chord Mojo as it works well with the AKG K550. I found the Oppo dac to be poor. The Mojo wipes the floor with it.

Dale I would go for it. They are stunning and only £699. The bass is phenomenal and the treble is so detailed. I find the Grado boring in comparison. The P9 sound like no other headphone i own.
