    Best universal player for audio

If you don't care about BD playback and are not wanting to use the Uni players DAC for media file playback, then you could do a LOT worse than get yourself an Arcam DV139. This was a £2k + player new with no expense spared on the specification at the time. One of the greatest reference status...

    Best universal player for audio

Oppo 105 & Primare BD30 are both universally highly rated (outside of the WHF building anyway!). I would have said the Arcam BDP300 for CDP, but it's not a universal player. I had a Cambridge Audio 751 as well for a few weeks last year, but hated it and the 752 is probably the same analogue 2CH...

    Rega Elicit R - Happy

So can we read into that then Paul as the numbers are low set against the total number of amps you sell, that if we have had an amplifier (of any make) that is silent and the Rega amp bought to replace it hums (as mine does - through the speaker and the actual amp itself), then we can say that...

    Rega Elicit R - Happy

Sorry, but I think you will find that that isn't a universally accepted view. And you don't have to try to hard to find contrary opinions on the internet from amp designers / knowledgeable owners. You may not want to hear any hum as a personal preference though which is fine and understandable...

    Rega Elicit R - Happy

Not wishing to hijack this thread, but Paul as I stumbled across this thread can I get you to clear the water with regard to hum issues from Rega amps please. I have a Brio R like many people (which I love), and it is paired up with your RS1 speakers and latest speaker cable and interconnect. My...

    Questions for Arcam?

Sadly I was too late to put in a question which would have been something along the lines of 'when are Arcam going to produce a proper DV139 FMJ universal player replacement instead of foisting the overpriced, user beta-tested budget electronics of the BDP100 & 300 on us'.... Instead I will...

New amp for REGA RS3 speakers - Nait 5i, Leema Pulse 2, Brio-R, Exposure 2010S2

If you want to go off the beaten track then do consider NVA (Nene Valley Audio) amps. They are very well suited to Rega RS series ( I can vouch for that with NVA AP20 amp matched with Rega RS1's). A quick look around forums will show you many Naim owners with £k's worth of power upgrades that...

    Rega brio-r.......an improvement ?

The Germans! Always believe the Germans ;) Very efficient people you know, and totally incapable of telling something that is not factually correct or humorous/joking..... :D So it must be true!

    Best mp3 player around?

Well I have a Cowon X7 and it's glorious for sound quality. Does FLAC and gapless, and the 120GB version (which should be good for most people) can be had for £200. The 160GB is a bit more. I also have a 32GB Sony X1060. They are not made anymore, but you can still pick up newish ones on...

Cambridge Audio BD751 vs BD650 personal review

@ Dandy: I'm very surprised you did not any difference with DVD's. Are you sure you were using challenging discs? With the QDEO chipset that should be (by all other Oppo 93 & 95 reviews) deliver big improvements in DVD playback over players without dedicated scaling/artifact hardware. @ Clare...

    Fleetwood Mac fans...

Mirage is the last (& worst) of the Buckingham era albums I have not yet got. It is still £5.95!

Spring has sprung, where art thee Cambridge Audio 751BD?

@ Rod: They are video optimised. They both have the QDEO processing chip implemented. I've read early reviews of the Oppo 93 which state that this is the most impressive artifact reducing solution for upscaled SD discs since the ABT2010 chipset from a few years back.

Spring has sprung, where art thee Cambridge Audio 751BD?

And note Andrew he has got the Oppo on order already ;) - I have the Arcam DV139 which has the Wolfson 8740's in. It sounds great to my ears. In fact the Wolfson DAC is the one reason I may choose the CA over the Oppo.

Takes Two Bites to Select Specific Manufacturer in Review Categories

Not sure if this is known already, but I can't see it listed in issues. I am using IE8, tried with both normal and compatability modes. So I drill down to say CDP section of reviews (all sections are affected) and I select a manufacturer and the page then reloads but still with all mfg's...
