Hi,

I have a philips 47" 9664 tv and currently I'm using a B&W Zeppelin as my source for when I'm
Playing films.

This has been a temporary measure until I move house which is now imminent.

I'm planning on getting a yamaha 1067 and a kef3005se 5.1 system
To go with it.

My question is has anyone ever used the Zeppelin as a centre speaker with the kef's as surrounds? And what does it sound like?

The reason I want to do this is because I have nowhere else to put the zep
In my new property and don't want to make it redundant.

Feel free to suggest alternatives to my proposed setup. I have a budget of £1800-£2000

Thanks in advance

Hi wiresparky,

Firstly the Yamaha and 3005se package are a very suitable system match, the Yamaha 1067 has more than enough power to drive the 3005SE package and they pair up very well, sonically. I would suggest crossing over at around 90Hz for best performance from the satellites/surround speakers.

We would probably recommend that you don't use the Zeppelin. As good as it is, as a dedicated centre channel in a mix and match 5.1 system you may find this under performs as it's not really designed to perform as a centre channel, also, I'm not sure the Zeppelin has speaker level inputs, so it may not be possible to do this.

It's important the front 3 channels (FR, C & FR) are all common speakers i.e. same manufacturer. This is to ensure a correct tonal balance and integration across the front soundstage.

The 3005se system does come with a dedicated centre channel speaker, one that actually isn't dissimilar to the style of the Zeppelin, yet it is designed specifically to handle the important parts of the 5.1 mix. Up to 60% of the movie sound track will be coming through this speaker, so it has got to be suitable and fit for purpose.

Using the dedicated centre will also provide better integration between all of the speakers and because of the Uni-Q driver array the 3005se use, you'll notice a huge performance increase and larger sound stage because of it.

Obviously, we wouldn't want your Zeppelin to be redundant, however, you may see big integration and performance drops if you wanted to use the Zeppelin in this way, (if it is possible?)

All KEF 3005se related info can be found on our website.

Good luck with your search.
