Looking at upgrading my Marantz soundbar for the new Yamaha YSP 2200. Are the Yamaha's that much better than the Marantz? Is the Yamaha as good as seperates?

Any info greatly appreciated thanks

Absolutely love my Yamaha YSP - 2200. Can't really compare to the Marantz. Much better than my previous seperates system but that has lot to do with my awkward room layout. Will say the clarity, cohesion and 'nice' sound are step above my old Sony Amp and Jamo A102 set up.

There are seperates and there are seperates. Certainly wouldn't swap mine for a similarly priced seperates style system.Would assume a larger speaker set with lower 'crossover' would sound better, nowhere near as convenient though.

Thanks for the feedback, i have 2 rooms one with a Marantz sound bar some years old now that i love easy to use the wife and kids acan even use it. In the other room a Yamaha rx-v 1500 with kef pods. I want the ysp 2200 to replace the kef and yamaha set up. From what i read on the internet the ysp 2200 sounds like it may do as good a job as the old rx-v with the kefs. Any feedback greatly appreciated

Thanks

No i wouldn't swap, not even for £500 more!

Its the simplicity with which it fits into my system. I am sure that there are better separate systems for the money but my system wasn't. It looks great in the lounge, i have the sub on the bottom shelf of a heavy wooden TV stand with sound projector on top. No rattle.

I see it like this:

?300 - amp, ?300 speakers, stands ?80, cabling ?50 = ?730

I only paid ?720 for the YSP- 2200! No mess, no clutter, brilliant sound.

After hearing the Yamaha i would consider that brand as an amp route, but i can't think of any speakers i would like up to £500.

Of course if i had a seperate cinema room for my projector i may consider a full speaker package but would definetly try the YSP first.

thanks for all the advice, i know you are not going to get true 5.1 put how good is it really. Thanks

ps where is the best place to buy one? pref someone who has stock

Best to give Yamaha UK a call on 0870 444 5575, they'll be able to give you details of your nearest stockist.

Impossible for me to say how 5.1 would sound in any given room but i will explain how mine works.

TV/ YSP in corner facing settee on opposite wall. In 5.1 mode it throws effects to the right and left corners opposite the TV. If you have seen Dolby's recommended set up with rear speakers around 90 degrees to seating then this is as close as you can get in my room. With settee against the wall there is little room to bounce soundwaves. However, use a 6.1 or 7.1 disc in '5 Beam plus 2' mode and even with settee to the wall effects can appear to come from behind. Suggest setting the mic higher than settee during set up to ensure wall is used for reflection and not settee, and use THX disc to check the volume for the rear channels matches the fronts. what it does do is create a full wall of sound between all points with movement within that space, very effective.

Hi , I am also very interested in this product given that it has received a good review. I have one one of its predecessors , the ySP 30D and a mirage omni sat S8 subwoofer. Just wondering that given that it has a passive sub and smaller main unit will this still outperform over my current set up? I know that my YSP does not handle Hi Def soundtracks so would it be a worthwhile step up or would i be losing something considering it has a smaller overall power output . sorry for my ignorance on these matters ? There is no Yamaha stockists near where am so really at the mercy of opinion and reviews ?

Can't really make a comparison as i haven't tried your kit. Use mine at around 3m to tv. In a bigger room or if you are a 'bass junkie' then i agree that in theory your active sub should sound better. I find HD soundtracks have better midrange that their SD relatives. Even in non HD audio it seems that the inclusion of mid-bass drivers in the projector would help to create a very full sound.

There are many ways to get great sound, i just like the simplicity of my Yamaha especially after having numerous seperates systems over the last few years.

I was already set on buying a YSP-2200 before the reviews due to it's 'form factor', but as the sound projector uses walls for reflection it would be difficult to get a perfect demo.

If i was buying kit at £1,000+ i would use the train if i had to for a demo, wouldn't buy a car without trying.I too really need to start trying AV kit before purchase.

Cookie Monster, how tall is the soundbar when the feet are attached, if you use them?

EDIT Its OK, I jsut found out, cheers.
