Hi ..
Have been reading a lot online and in WhatHiFi regards the various soundabr options, and it looks like it has to be a Yamaha I go for.
However, all is not clear and Yamaha themselves are being evasive about the question I have..

Regardless of their various ages...aren't the 900/1100 units exactly the same as the 30D/40D less the DAB & Video connectivity?

Some reviews do suggest this, and they all have the same HD3 version of the surround sound engine ...but is it true?
I have no need of video passthrough/processing so finding out is useful to me!
WhatHiFi/Forumers....do you know the answer?

It is confusing with the Yamaha soundbars - I bought the HTY-760 and couldn't tell it apart from the YSP-600. The specs are identical, the only difference (to me anyway) is that the 600 is all black and the 760 has aluminium edging.

I'm not sure about the 30D and 40D but you'll probably find they are almost identical to the older models. Check the number of speakers/wattage etc on the Yamaha site. I can confirm that the HTY-760 is just the silver version of the YSP-600.

Mikey2008 have you added a sub to your 760?

Not yet - it's on the list of things to do. I'm actually really happy with the 760, having now had it for a few weeks. I think the sub would round it off.

kjelly... I had the same question as you and posted a similar question on here without any success.

It's my (limited) understanding that the 30D has DAB radio and HDMI connectivity and all other specs are pretty much the same. I couldn't justify the extra £300 for those features and bought the YSP900.

I'm extremely happy with the result it's given and would recommend the soundbar if you're pushed for space. Also, unless you want floor shaking bass you could do without the sub - the bass is more than adequate.

Thanks everyone.

I did finally squeeze a vague answer out of Yamaha, who obviously want to sell their latest products.

The 900 is the same as the 30D in terms of sound quality and abilty - although they said that some of the electronics used in the more recent 30D would mean that overall it might sound a little better....but essentially it was the same.

They said the same thing about the 1100/40D comparison.

However, with Richer Sounds just giving the 40D away for 500 GBP, why bother with the 1100.

hope this helps you all

I'm also really happy with the YSP-600. Quite impressed with what it can do for such a small package. I want to try a sub but I'm also quite happy with the bass levels without. Adding the sub defeats the space saving point a bit but would love to hear the difference! Might just do without until I'm serious about buying a good sub.
