Hi there!

I need help to choose an AV amplifier, can any one help me?

I want to decide which of these should I buy, Yamaha RX-V667, Onkyo SR608 and Denon 1911.

My preference it's to listen good music, however, I want to enjoy the special effects on movies.

At the begining I don't want to spend a lot, I was thinking in 2 floorstand speakers with a good bass, or 2 bookshelf speakers and a sub, and later complete the 5.1 system. I saw Monitor Audio BX5, Wharfadale Diamond 10.4 and Jamo S606 for floorstand and Monitor Audio BX2 for bookshelf, and there is a lot more, it's hard to decide. Can any one help me with this issue here?

Thanks a lot.

I'm quiet a big fan of yamaha and monitor audio, so the 667 and the BX5 would be my preference, but as I say that's my preference.

I have heard the 608 and IMO it is better than the 667 for effect steering etc, but I believe the MAs and yamaha match better. I used to have a Denon 1910 and that was also a great piece of kit, so I am sure the 1911 is great also, they are so close and I would advise you try to arrange a demo of all the kit you like before you buy anything.

Just to throw another into the mix, you can pick up a B grade Denon AVR 2310 for £400 (or a little less if you are smart) now. I was going though the exact same process as you but also had the Pioneer VSX920 on the list.

I decided on the 2310 for what its worth, I couldn't demo it though so it was a bit of a risk but after reading the comments on here about it, a very small one! Will get it tomorrow so nothing to report yet. Could be worth considering if you don't have a 3Dtv.

Pikman makes a good point, but I liked to future proof to a degree and get 3D compatible. Do I want it tomorrow? No. But I might, so I went down that route

Pikman:Yes, I may have shot myself in the foot... although my wife assures me we aren't getting a 3Dtv anytime soon :D

Mine often assures me we aren't getting ANYTHING anytime soon. At that point I assume the whining and wearing down techniques of a 6 year old to great effect

lol, I just went ahead and bought my Denon this week after the wearing down not working so well, also the centre, rears and a sub, so I'm covered for a while I think, can't wait to get it all hooked up, just need the sub to hurry up and arrive!

Back to the OP for a second. I'd just take a wad of cash to your local store and have a proper listen to them all, I did that with my stereo setup and ended up with something entirely different to what I had planned, same money but better sound than my original shortlisted items, plus it was great fun :)

Thank you all for your opinions!

I think I'll go for the RX-V767, now I can buy it for 511? at Redcoon.

I'm also considering the Jamo S606(Pair=292?), Plk Audio TSi300(Pair=292?) and Magnat Quantum 555(Pair=304?) at Redcoon as well.

For now I don't believe in 3D, but in a near future, who knows?!?!

What do You think?

Thanks a lot, I really apreciate your comments, you are being a good help.

I've had much success, and pleasure, when partnering Tannoys with Denon kit, beit AV or HiFi. I've also partnered Tannoys with Yamaha AV kit as well. Currently running the Denon 1911, but as is always said, audition the kit first and trust your ears!

I also have Tannoy dual concentric speakers partnered with Denon 1911, and I think it's great.

Replacing a broken Marantz AV amp I did a bit of listening to Yamaha, Pioneer, and Denon, and went for Denon. All round for films and music it was to me the best amp.

The Denon seems to give the Tannoys the detail they can relay, but also really controls the low end well, and gives it impact and solidity.

To me the Denon was a no-brainer, and at the prices they are now selling for, they are a real bargain. but people do have different opinions, so have a listen if you can.

Thanks for reply.
So Denon sounds better than Yamaha with Tannoy.Yamaha 667 is simply VFM & will try to take a Demo.
