Thanks for the advice Nixer.

Are you still waiting on one from Exceptional AV? And if you are, did they debit the whole amount from your credit card the same way they did with mine?? I paid in full over a month ago and still don't even have a delivery date.

When they told me they didn't have stock (after my order had been processed and I received a mail saying it was in stock and would be delivered next day I add!) they offered me an Onkyo 876 instead with a "free" £80 QED HDMI cable. Seeing as I was fine for cables already, this wasn't a great offer, so I declined by email and asked them if I could wait for the Yamaha Amp until Jan and could they confirm the price was still the £715 I had paid. They replied "No problem." I'll be somewhat irate if they turn round after I've asked them to confirm the price should it ship in January and attmpt to charge me more.

Does anyone have an RX-V1900 on order from anywhere else at the moment and what are you being told by the dealer?

No problem mate!

This is my last post on here by the way.

Just wanted to add that i was told by a member of staff that they are not sure what they are going to be billed by Yamaha and it depends on that as to what price they will charge. He said that if they invoice at the old rate then old prices will apply. Which also means that they haven't been charged for amps that they have both sold and received full money for!

However, i spoke with another retailer and they told me that they paid Yamaha for amps at the old price that they never received and when they told Yamaha not to refund but just to deliver the amps when in stock, Yamaha refunded and rebilled at the new price when the new amps arrived!

Again food for thouight.

PS Most dealers will tell you that they wont do deals at old prices as the demand is so high they don't need to sell at a deep discount to shift stock. Ring Exceptional AV and ask them straight, that way you will know. They told me at least four more weeks and if it is going to be at the higher price then you might as well buy elsewhere and get the amp now.

I'm waiting on a dsp ax863 from Exceptional AV. Ordered it a couple of weeks ago as it said it was in stock. Of course, it wasn't but they took my money anyway. They say this is normal when you order online. Not too happy about it but was prepared to be patient given the supply problem isn't their fault. Now I don't know if I'll actually get one when the order comes, whenever that is. Thinking of getting an Onkyo 706 or 806 instead now, rather than wait indefinitley.

As I've said before (can't remember which thread it was now!), sellers should not debit you until/unless they have the goods.

Personally, I wouldn't buy from anyone who debits you for items they do not have in stock! Amazon, and others, only charge you when the item is ready for delivery.

Absolutely agree with this and didn't realise this was the case when I made my post defending them (not sure if it was mentioned before that, but if so, it was 1.45am in the morning so I must have missed it!).

I can in no way defend a company that takes your money and then tells you the item is out of stock. If they let you know it's out of stock and will charge you as and when it's dispatched, that's fair enough, but I can't stand the idea that retailers feel they have a right to take my money when they have no intention of delivering the goods any time soon (unless this has been agreed in advance as a form of deposit). In such cases where it's been done to me, I have cancelled the order on principle and ordered elsewhere, even if it's been more expensive.

Yeah I found the Onkyo 806 for £499 at Richer Sounds. Might cancel my order tomorrow and go for that instead. Just hope I get my money back pretty quickly. It's frustrating that I'll need to wait for that before I can buy somewhere else. Never mind.

I've now received a "letter" from the Manageing Directror of Exceptional-AV

It basically says that they have been suffering from delivery problems in line with every other dealer in the UK and that Yamaha have confirmed that the next delivery of any great substance will be in 4-6 weeks, from which they will be able to fulfill all their back orders. Between now and then they may also receive some small quantities and will allocate them by date of order.

3 Choices:

1) If you paid in full, over the next week they will credit 90% of the payment and keep 10% as a deposit and you keep your place in line. The rest will be billed on dispatch.

2) If a deposit has been taken you can cancel the order and it will be refunded in full. If you decide to re-order you will go to the back of the queue

3) You can alternatively accept an Onkyo SR-876 for £670

At the moment, I have paid in full. Despite being bitterly disappointed at there being almost zero communication from them up till now and having to chase them to find anything out, I do think the options above are a fair offer.

They say that fortunately, as they are a Pre-Eminent dealer they have priority of deliveries, however I couldn't find them doing a search on the Yamaha dealer website based on dealers in Maidenhead. Does anyone know if this is correct or not?

So...what would you do? Wait for the AV-R1900, possibly 6 weeks (or more the way things have been going), or is the SR-876 as good a machine. Whilst I'm sure the price is a fair one for this unit, I would rather stick with the £710-ish I paid for the V1900 if this is a better quality machine. OR should I take my money and run and go for another alternative?

Speakers are Tannoy Revolution Signatures, 5.1 with Tannoy TS12 sub.

I've asked Yamaha for an official update on stock situation.

I do know that both they and many other manufacturers are currently facing shipment delays due to Chinese New Year, which (just like our Christmas break) seems to become a longer affair each year....

Hi Claire, Any news from Yamaha? I cannot get through to someone with any authority at Yamaha who can offer anything of worth. Exceptional AV are not talking either. I have been waiting since December for my RX-V1900 as have many others. I upgraded all my kit 6 weeks ago including a Panasonic DMP-BD35, Sony KDL-46W4500, Tannoy Mercury Custom Speakers, QED HDMI leads and Silver Aniversary XT speaker cables but nothing to plug them into! Is the Onkyo TX-SR876 a sensible substitue or should I wait longer? Thanks.

Yamaha says new shipments are coming in all the time, but admits it's struggling to meet such high demand. It's a real shame Exceptional AV aren't keeping you better updated - i'll see if I can find out more....

I'm in exactly the same boat...my RX-V1900 was ordered from Exceptional-AV before Christmas. I chased them on Friday and they are still saying 4-6 weeks. Same story as every other time I have asked for an update over the last 6 or 7 weeks. I was also offered the Onkyo SR-876, but I can get it cheaper elsewhere and I'd still prefer the Yamaha.

I've also got £2,000 of speakers sitting gathering dust right now with nothing to connect them into!

I sent an enquiry to Yamaha moaning about their inability to put some receivers on a boat or plane. See the response below from Steven Wells at Yamaha. It says nothing of the 1900 in question. Useless!

"It's been a very good year for Yamaha and yes we have been caught out by
the demand for AV Amps and Receivers. We are of course delighted with this
reaction which has meant that we have been able to sell everything we planed
to sell and much more, but far more quickly than we imagined.

However to help meet the demand and despite the difficult economic times we
have been taking the unprecedented decision to air freight products into the
UK. We are pleased to say that this last weekend saw yet another arrival
with several hundred extra units of AV Receivers. Amongst the shipment are
the very popular DSP-AX863SE and DSP-AX763 with more arriving later this
week, and even then it's simply not enough.

The only advice we can offer to consumers is to keep in close contact with
their local Yamaha Retailer. Of course we are not able to comment on an
individual Dealers ability to supply or what their current back order
situation maybe with their customers.

This is a unique experience especially given the difficult economic times
and recently has only been associated with products such as Playstation and
Nintendo Wii where simply the demand also out stripped the supply.

We really thank our customers who have helped Yamaha become the No: 1 in
demand product for this season. We would also like to re assure them that we
are working very hard to keep pace with the demand going forward"

I work in an industry rife with incompetence where tonnes of materials can be ordered from Indochina, quarried, machined to a specified size and shape, shipped, cleared through customs and delivered quicker than Yamaha can deliver 17kg of mass produced electronic components!

The saga of my RX-V1900 purchase continues...

After several emails and phonecalls to exceptional-av.co.uk this week, I have had absolutely zero response. No one has answered my emails and it has always been a receptionist who took messages she was going to pass on to someone to get back to me. No-one has called me back yet.

So I'm now almost 9 weeks down the line since placing an order and the dealer, exceptional-av.co.uk, has stopped even giving me the usual fobbing off with "it'll be 4-6 weeks." This may be completely the fault of exceptional-av.co.uk, or it could be they are fed up telling people they still have no info from Yamaha. I'm going to try contacting Yamaha through their website to check the dealer status of this company as well, in case they aren't actually dealers!

Is there anyone who has taken delivery of any Yamaha AV receivers ordered from exceptional-av.co.uk before Christmas any time recently??

Has Yamaha given any updates with regards to their supply of AV-receivers in the UK at the Bristol show? wondering if anyone has had any updates directly from the horse's mouth, so to speak.

Hi Acciesboy,

We're still waiting some news I'm afraid at the moment. I cant tell which customer you are from your user name, but please give me a call directly on 0800 634 4480 and I will give the best answer I can. We do have some 1900's on the way to us and I will be able to tell you if they will cover your order if you give me a call. If you can't call email me directly on hunter@nowgroupuk.com.

I'm afraid you may have had some issue getting through to us at the end of Feb as we were running on half staff due to holidays and impeccably timed sicknesses. We are back to full compliment now and you will get a response to email within one working day, normally within one hour, and you should be able to get through to us straight away on the phone, if not we will call back within a couple of hours.

As far as, are we an official dealer for Yamaha, yes we are. You can check this with Yamaha UK on 01908 366700. We became a dealer in Dec 08 - just in time for the stock issues!

Best regards,

Hunter Abbott

Thanks for the reply, Hunter. Always helps when we get info from those in the know. I realise how frustrating the supply issue is on the RX-V1900 for everyone, but we have passed on your frustrations directly to Yamaha.

I appear to be one of the lucky ones, ordered it mid December from Creative Audio and drove to Shrewsbury to get it on Dec 23rd. Watching Batman,The Dark Knight (b-ray)on Christmas Day - AMAZING PIECE OF KIT.

My advice is to grit your teeth and hang on until they are in stock.

To be fair to exceptional-av, Yamaha did get back to me...eventually after about 3 days...and they did also confirm their dealer status...it looks as though Yamaha don't keep their dealer locator up to date. Bearing in mind the delays in maufacturing, this really doesn't surprise me to be honest!

Someone from exceptional-av did eventually call me back one evening around 7:30pm, which was absolutely fine. I realise people don't need to work that late, so I appreciated the call back. The latest info given was that Yamaha deliveries are anticipated "mid-March." With a bit of luck this will mean this week or next.

So thank you to Mr Abbot for braving the public forums and offering his assistance. I wish Yamaha were as keen to speak to their customers as you are. It still seems incredible that Yamaha aren't in a position to tell their reseller channel what deliveries will be made to them and when for items ordered months previously. I realise there is a "new regime" at Yamaha Uk and manufacturing forecasts were made before they came into power. That doesn't help me though. Mine has been ordered under their watch...so where is it? And why can't they tell their channel when their own stock will arrive?

Hi Acciesboy,

I placed an order end of Jan with Exceptional AV for a Yamaha Z7, Dali Ikon 6 5.1 and a healthy length Carnaval Silverscreen for good measure :)

I dealt with Hunter for my order, everything was done in a very courteous and professional manner.

As the Dali are made to order directly in their Danish factory, I received the speakers, the cabling within a week, and someone from the shop personaly delivered it to my place on a saturday evening to make sure that I could have it for the week-end (I happen to live not to far from Maidenhead where they are based). Because it became apparent that Yamaha had some serious stock problem all over the UK, Hunter kindly offered me a Onk 505 gap unit so that I could get at least my system until I receive the Z7, which was very much appreciated.

In the meantime, I went to the Bristol show to beat up the Yamaha guys, who told me that they would get a delivery from Asia in approx 10 days. Guess what, Exceptional AV got their units as promise and Hunter arranged for a next day delivery, and the picking up of the Onk 505 gap unit. I got my Z7 last week, and wow..... :)

All this to say that a number of retailers have been left between a rock and a hard place over the last few weeks because this Yamaha supply issues, and putting myself in the shoes of a retailer like Exceptional AV, it is a very uncomfortable place to be. But still Hunter and his team kept me updated with my order.

So would I buy from them again? Yes absolutely. I am really not there to scratch anybody's back, but some of the threads I have seen on the forum about Excep AV are a bit unfair to be honest.

Yamaha deliveries are getting better with stock arriving at least once a week now and the numbers are getting bigger each time, even 1900's are making an appearance now - the first lot in many months!

Thanks for the heads up Nick, I was actually wondering if Yamaha were ever going to deliver the goods, so it's heartening to see they are beginning to trickle through. Could you take a picture of an RX-V1900 box so I can print it out and sit it next to the £2,000 worth of speakers I've had gathering dust for the last couple of months!
