I have recently upgraded to an AV amp (Yamaha RX-V1065) and I am struggling with some of the settings. My equipment is as follows:

Yamaha RX-V1065 Amp

2 x B&W DM601 S3 front speakers

Monitor Audio R225HD Centre

2 x Cambridge Audio Minx MIN10 rear speakers

Sony BDP S370 Blu Ray

Sky + HD box

I understand to get 5.1 sound from the Sky box I need to connect via an optical cable, do I need an optical and an HDMI or just an optical?

Also I ran the auto set up in "front" mode as this was the setting if you front speakers had significantly better qualities than the others. Was this the correct option for me as there does not seem to be a great deal of sound from the rears. Not sure if this is correct or maybe it is just the movies I have tested it with?

Any advice for a home cinema novice greatfully recieved.

Sky optical to amp for 5.1

HDMI from Sky to either the amp (then to the tv0 or keep it simple and straight to the tv

Make us of the Yamaha YPAO system for ALL of your speakers, it's there to help on set up and is very good

Then have another listen and let us all know

I would suggest using the flat set up not front, as it will try to use some sort of compression on the rears to get them to sound like the fronts, and every time I have tried it, the sound was a little muffled, but experiment yourself a little.

Thanks for the help, got it all up and running now. Tested it out watching terminator 2 and it is sounding great.
