Hello,

A few weeks ago I put a deposit down with my usual dealer for a Yamaha RX-A1020 receiver to secure one once they got stock and was told it would be about a week until they got some. About 2-3 weeks have past now and after a call to them today I was told it would be at least another 2 weeks until any stock arrived but more likely 3 weeks minimum so my question is are there stock issues with this receiver in the UK that anyone is aware of that may explain the delay?

I'm reticent to shop elsewhere after receiving excellent service from my dealer and a simply unbeatable price but if the issue is with my dealer then I would be prepared to shop elsewhere, any info much appreciated. I should add i've done the usual google searches but found nothing and have contacted yamaha but had no response.

Hi Oldboy

I am sorry to hear of this. Hopefully it won't be long before your dealer receives RX-A1020's

Hi,

They're starting to release the x30 versions of the Aventage range in the States, so is it possible the 1020 is now considered end-of-life and they're not making any more? I think they've only announced the 730 and 830 so far, but the others may not be far behind.

I received an email from an online retailer, after enquiring about the 1020 & 2020, which stated that they would have the 2020 very soon, and the 1020 within 10 days.

Those 10 days are nearly up, and the price they're offering them at is too good to resist.

I'll let you know when they have stock back in.

No they are not end of life models infact they are part of Yamahas 2013 line up of receivers and have only recently been released. According to my retailer the issue is simply Yamaha have under estimated demand based on last years sales figures and that new stock will be arriving from Europe some time next week fingers crossed.

That sounds like the news I got from my retailer yesterday who was kind enough to give me a call back later in the afternoon yesterday after my initial call. They chased up the order and were told stock should arrive next week from Europe but that the 2020 was expected in a couple of days and offered me the chance to take one of those for £799...at that price I'm sorely tempted but I've not seen a review. A £1500 2013 receiver for £799 seems like a great deal to me, I've slept on it but I still can't decide...anyone seen a review??

Thanks for the info BIGBERNARDBRESSLAW really appreciate your feedback, keep me posted, many thanks.

Thanks for your input bigboss.

Unfortunately I can't demo either amp...i'm having to source either of the Yamaha amps from the dealer I used for my speakers who are a long way away from me, I've tried all the local stores and none of them stock a wide range of amps in store. I tried my nearest Sevenoaks and Richer Sounds at the weekend (which involved quite a trip) and neither of them had either of the amps I was looking at for either demo or on the shop floor so i'm buying blind which I hate doing as everything else i've bought I have managed to demo first .

I know it's not ideal to buy this way which is why I have been so careful in choosing and researching an amp in the first place but I must say i'm not feeling as confident with this purchase as I was with all my other choices and when the 2020 was offered to me for an extra £100 I almost said yes there and then. I'm glad I held off and ran it past the WHF forum first, at least this way i'm getting some good censensous of opinion before I decide what to do.

Many thanks for your input and advice, greatly appreciated.

Hi Oldboy,

So as I understand it, you're being asked to pay £100 more for the 2020. If that's correct, I'd go for it.

It's worth noting that Aventage receivers sit fairly deep (I'm talking dimensions rather than sound). I couldn't fit a 1010 or upwards in my cabinet. You've probably looked into this, but thought I'd mention the size, just in case.

I think I recieved the same mail if you were offered the 1020 for £599 - but due to it being an online/phone purchase declined to leave a deposit. Fortunatly got the last one from Superfi new boxed but they could not match that price got it for the price they are selling the 2020 for. Its a complicated amp with one of the worse manuals I have ever read that came on a CD just to rub it in. - currently using it for stereo playback - still undecided about it.

That was about 4weeks ago, suprised they still don't have any in stock try to get your deposit back print out a copy of the ad and take it round to your nearest high st stockiest, they may match it or come down to meet it part way and yes they are big.

LOL.... that pic of Agent Smith and the blunt reply/question actually made me feel as though I had done something criminal - do a search and click on the adverts/offers. Someone was asking about the company on this forum a few weeks ago not sure if it would be against the rules to mention them.

Actually it was the 1010 going for £599, the 1020 for £699 if I remember right.

I have a 2020 and must say I'm extremely happy with it. I demo'd it and the 1020, and to my ears there was a noticable difference. As a few people have pointed out, it is a bit of a beast in the size department, so best get your tape measure out. Hope this is of help.

I was offered the 1020 for £699, and the 2020 for £799. I was also asked about a deposit in advance to secure the 2020, but not for the 1020.

I know that's an awesome price for the 2020, but with my speaker set up, the 1020 is more than good enough.

Let's keep the supplier quiet though.

I've been after this deal for a while, but been waiting on money since January, so now I have some money in, I don't want to miss out on the deal.

Selfish I know.

But yeah, it's CA.

Yes also Creative Audio who I have been dealing with...I just hope that now the cat is out of the bag you don't all ruin my chances of getting an amp!

I made my mind up yesterday and plumped for the 2020 so my deposit has been transfered over and hoping to get some good news this week although I'm certainly not counting on it after the delay with the 1020.

As for the dimensions...I was more worried about the height of it and had measured that to make sure it would fit but I hadn't looked at the depth which has took me by surprise! Now I know how they have kept it relatively small in height (equal to my Onkyo 609) it's that it stretches back like a boat.

I'm having a real problem getting some dimensions of the 2020 as wherever I look I get a different answer! Yamaha say it is an incredible 18-3/8” deep or 46.7 cm if you prefer where retailers figures vary widly between just over and under that figure so I'm going to go by Yamahas figures...that makes it really tricky knowing if it will fit!!

My unit is 50cm deep and 163cm wide and supposedly a proper home cinema rack (Atacama Elara AV54 1500) but has a cable management back in the centre of the unit making placement of the 2020 tricky. Fortunately there are openings to the back at the unit at either side so it's not enclosed but I'm now concerned that it won't fit once I plug everything in, here are 2 links to what my unit looks like although this is a smaller version to mine:

http://www.variety.co.uk/atacama-audio-elara-av-54-tv-stand-in-black.html?source=googleps&utm_source=gproducts&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=FGP

Does anyone have any theories as to whether or not the 2020 would fit on my unit?? I know the amp itself will just fit but I'm concerned I will have enough clearence at the back for all the connections... :?

I have a similar problem Oldboy, they are whoppers aren't they?

I haven't actually put any deposit down, so you're more likely to get an amp than me.

Yep they are HUGE...i'm just hoping it will fit but i'm fully prepared and ready to take the drill to the back cable plate if I have to as it's only made from wood so at least I can modify it to fit if I have to but I'm hoping that if I install it off centre most of the connections should be accessable leaving me just a few holes to drill.

I guess the proof will come when it arrives but if I need to buy a new tv stand then so be it but exactly what I could buy to accommodateit is anyones guess, I certainly don't want to go down the expensive custom rack route as I have alot of equipment to cram in now.

Fingers crossed it fits but I have my doubts in all honesty so I will research a new tv stand before it arrives as a plan B.

Are they real though?

Yes. Trusted retailer that I bought my speaker package from, price is not advertised but if you enquire via the website they will quote you that price, also they are a bricks and mortar retailer too so no worries buying from them at all.
