Hi Everyone,

I purchased an Yamaha RX-A3030 and to complement 2x Sonus Faber Venere 2.5 and 2x Sonus Faber Venere 1.5 (surrounds). However due to size restrictions i did not replace my center speaker.. so that one still runs on a Yamaha NX-430..

However I was not too impressed with the sound overall.. music sounded rubbish and also during movies I did not get the sound I wanted.. so i thought lets disable the center speaker in the config and magic happened.. Music was now full and filled the room, movie music was better.. but without the center, you still miss some depth..

Is this expected? Is it just my center speaker that I do need to replace? Can i set something else in my receiver? Could this be because of the (reduced) Ohms settings? Hints? Tips? etc..

Some disagree on these pages but I prefe 2ch music.using puredirect or at least 2.1. Your equipment seems to be excellent so I suggest u look at setup and maybe room acoustics. Clearly an unmatched centre is less than ideal but it shouldn't sound that bad imo. Check auto setup ypao before tweaking. I wonder if u have setupok and are using the correct settings? Are u familiar with all the variois settings the Yamaha has? Your post doesnt suggest u have upgraded or is it a new installation

I dare say your Yamaha centre won't quite be up to the same standard as your Sonus Fabers, so I'd sort of expect it. In instances like this, removing the centre can improve things, but there are also drawbacks. Is the Yamaha set to large or small? If it is set to large, you could set it to small and up the crossover point until it sounds like it improves - if you remove the stressful lower frequencies from the speaker, they tend to sound clearer. It might also be worth making sure all the drivers are working properly, as some faults may not show up at normal volumes, but appear when driven harder.
