Looking to replace my Onkyo 605 and want good music sound. The Yanaha 863 looks a great upgrade option, but willing to spend up to £1000. See Yamaha also have the RXV1900. Anyone heard this and will this be a big improvement ????

Well, as luck would have it, we've just finished a First Test of the Yamaha RX-V1900 which will appear in the Jan 09 issue of the magazine, on sale next week. I might even persuade the powers-that-be to let me put the review online before then, so watch this space.

The 1900 has a multi-point auto setup compared to the 863's single point, which seems to give it a more detailed, better balanced presentation. If you can stretch to £1,000, an extra £125 will get you the 3900, which has a much better menu system with greater setup flexibility, including multiple crossover points for individual speakers rather than a single crossover point. With the network features and internet radio, it's a much better value for money amp than the 1900. Like I said, I've just mentioned it as it's a little bit more.
