Yamaha 667 or Pioneer 920 with Q Acoustic 1020 7.1?

Both can be had around the £300 mark, the Pioneer being slightly cheaper. Listen to a lot of music through 1020 front and AE Radience sub, plus movies and TV.

Currently have Onkyo 606, not sure these will give a big improvement.

The only real improvements would be 3D compatiable and I doubt you'd notice any Sonic Improvement to warrant the money.

you'd be better off spending the £300 on a speaker upgrade or a aged high end amp

Now I'm confused.

If the Denon 1909 was 5 stars and better than the Onkyo 606, especially with music but then the 1910 was better than the 1909 and product of the year and then you'd assume the 1911 was better than the 1910 but this was behind both the Onkyo 608, Yamaha and Pioneer and so only worth 4 stars. After all that there isn't really any improvement other than better features.

That means with my small budget I will never improve the sound with an AV amp. Don't really have room for a stereo amp and the Onkyo doesn't have pre outs.

The 667 would be my choice between the two and you will notice a difference but not a huge step up. With £300 to spend I would consider new speakers on the fronts, you shoudl find a bigger improvement that way.

I'm glad I didn't do it then. Could have got the Yamaha for £259.

I have been inspired by my new sub. It has showed me that I'm not getting good sound with music. The bass drum thud (like a bass drum sounds at a gig) in some music has got me craving for more - if that makes any sense.

So would you go for AE Neo 3 V1 fronts and Neo Centre to go with my AE Radience sub? Think I can get them for around £260.

Would this sort of purchase give me a good improvement in music and movies?

Ive never heard Neo so i cant comment on those but subwoofer doesnt need matched to the Front Speakers. BX2 and BX Centre is like £360 from Newcastle Hifi delivered and comes with 10m of Silver Anniversary XT cable which is £5.60 a metre and 5 stars

Where those Neo speakers 4 stars? BX2 5.1 was given 5 stars a few issues i go and pushed me towards it. I think the photos of the BX2 in black dont do it justice and they look really good.

Quite agree the MA's will be better speakers overall but I've become a bass lover, hence the large floorstanding Neo 3 idea.

I suspect I would want to play the BX2's with my sub for extra bass but my amp sounds best in Pure mode which bi passes the sub. Also the MA's would need stands as my current stands only fit the Q Acoustics, pushing the price too high. And I already have the QED cable.
