In my 'personal' opinion the advantage of XLR cables is the common mode rejection of any electro magnetic interference that may exist if you use long cable runs....hence the use in pro audio situations. For normal domestic HiFi I doubt you could detect any difference between XLR and normal RCA cables. I am willing to be proven wrong...🙂
