I currently use my xbox to veiw movies stored on my Netgear Stora.

Will a BDP-s370 give me the same kind of quality or even better when streaming movies from my stora or is sticking with the xbox a better choise you think? Im rather happy with the image quality the xbox gives me but it does make abit more noise than i like on quiet nights.

My BDP-S370 is extremely quiet.

There is an option to use something call 'QuickStart' but I don't use it because the instructions warn that it will involve using the cooling fan more. (Plus I am a fairly patient person who doesn't care about a DVD or BluRay taking a bit longer to start up.)

I can honestly say I don't know if the S370's fan has ever come on. If it has, then it must be extremely quiet.

You also get access to BBC iPlayer (pretty good quality too) with the aid of an ethernet cable to your router. Not sure if the Xbox does this or if it's something you'd use.

Im not in Britain so i dont think ill have access to that bbc thing :)

Normally i rip my movies to divx format. Some are in avi format though when they come from the camcorder.

Well, according to the specifications in the manual, the Sony will play Divx movies, but it's probably worth checking this if you can prior to purchase - maybe put a couple of movies on a USB stick and take it to a dealer to ensure it plays them?

The sony blu-ray players (like the PS3) are fully divx certified so will definitely play divx files.

(You just need to go online and register them).

The 360 only has partial divx support, so the sony should play all the divx your xbox does.

I'd recommended paying the extra £20-30 to get the Sony BDP-S470 to get the 3d support and future-proof yourself.

Thx

I knew the dry specs of the 370 but specs and what it actually manages to do are not always the same ;)

I may go for the 470 but frankly i doubt 3d will ever (or atleast in the next few years) be anything for me. Going to find a new tv (prolly the panasonic 42" x20) before xmas and it will last way beyond the player i suspect.
