Xbox 360 as a HD disc player

Hi all, don't know whether you can advise me on this querry.

I have recently just invested in a HD Disc player for my Xbox 360, and I was wondering if anybody knows if I can play region 1 discs on it, or if I am limited to playing HD discs that originate from region 2 (which is the case for standard def discs).

Also, if there will be any upgrades on the being able to decode the newer sound formats.

HD-DVD is currently region-free so you can play HD discs from the US. I believe it is unlikely that the HD sound formats will be supported in the future.
