Hi all,

Wanted to know if anyone has ever used one.

I have short wired my subwoofer cable, and my small QA sub is the only one that can fit into my present wired location. As I want to add a second sub now, I will have to use a wireless kit to get the second sub out signal to it.

Any suggestions or advice would be most helpful. Thanks

Use matching subs for a start....

Presuming your subs are of the powered variety you should be able to put an RCA splitter on the back of your receiver and run a cable to each (matching) sub.

The problem is that there is only room for one small sub and another sub below 16" in size. So either I have to settle for one small and one medium size sub. Or just go with one medium sub.

The SR6011 has 2 sub outs. Sub out 1 is hard wired to existing qacoustics q2070i sub through under flooring wiring. Using hard wiring for the second sub will not get past the memsahib. So will need a wireless sub woofer kit if I have to use the second sub.

And in the hard wired sub location, only the qa2070i sub will fit due to its narrow width

Go for two smaller matching ones.

I use two Polk PSW110s and although perhaps they don't go so low as others, or so low that the windows buzz like those in the local teenagers' Corollas, they work just fine for me.

Or....

If you can find them and can live with their (not brilliant) sound for "proper stereo" duties Boston Acoustics make (or at least made) floorstanding stereo speakers with powered subs built into their bases. Others may make similar.

Hi Newlash, remember that even a wireless kit will need power for both the transmitter and receiver, so your significant other is still going to have to accept an increase in the wire-count. Are you sure there's no way of routing a normal cable to your second sub in a way that will be domestically acceptable? There's lots of ways to hide cables, and you're only talking about one solitary thin wire.

Since the signal to the sub is voltage only with very very little current involved you could also cobble together some flat ribbon under-carpet type speaker cable and fit (solder or crimp) DIY RCA plugs from Maplin....

@ major - thanks for pointing out the extra wiring. Have dropped the idea of a wireless kit.

@ bigboss - thanks for those screw fix cable trays. Will give this a try and they seem to be the best fit in my situation.

@ sir Benedict - thanks for suggesting two identical subs. The problem is that the present qacoustics q7070 sub only goes till 35hz . And adding two of them will ideally even out the bass, but still won't go below 35hz. So I want to add atleast one big sub that goes down to 14hz. Have a rythmik 15 incher in sight. Just have to work out how to fit it in my room :)

I think you'll end up with two new subs....

Issues in my small 11x17 ft living room. The fronts are qacoustics concept 40's and center & surrounds are satellites from the qacoustics q7000i 5.1 package. The floor standing concept 40's boom audibly due to their proximity with rear wall. Bunging the ports helps, but doesn't sound good to my ears.

Audessey eliminates this boom when enabled in the marantz. But the sound for music sounds too processed and mechanical without any emotion. I am coming to believe that the floor standers are the elephant in the room. In my previous house the qacoustics q7000i 5.1 used to sound lovely both for music and movies. So will replace the floor standers with the satellites and if this mitigates the problem, then I will have to think about the sub woofer next. As the included sub in this package blends in beautifully with the satellites. So the mind says add another of the same sub, but the heart wants something beasty going down to 14hz like the rythmik F15HP subs.

So will experiment with the satellites today and see, and if they sound better than the floor standers in my room.

I’ve just moved my sub to the other side of a doorway, I didn’t want to chase a cable round the door so I’ve installed Monitor Audio wireless transmitters and receivers. One pair for my AV amp and one pair for my stereo amp, into the same sub. (WT-1/WR-1 - £70 a pair). My comments are...

1. When calibrating with Audyssey on my Marantz SR7010, the sub test tone doesn’t always register first time.

2. The Audyssey may calibrate a longer distance to the sub. (I can’t remember the original cabled setting)

3. Two sub cables are required, amp > transmitter, receiver > sub.

4. Transmitter and receiver both require mains power.

In performance terms I’m totally happy, time will tell how reliable they are. In an ideal world I’d rather have a cable connection, but it’s a great solution to suit my room.

I will have to decide my sub now. Since my sound problems are now gone. I really don't know if people audition subs too :)

It will be summer before I can make any additions to my system now. Will check with your good selves before I take the plunge. Thanks
