Hello All,

I have just purchased the Sony KDL 32W4000 LCD screen and concequently want to build a home cinema package.

I have also purchased an Arcam Diva AVR 280 surround amp and also the 160 gb Playstation 3. Finally I need a speaker package to complete and am considering the Kef KHT 5005.2w speaker package as this features wireless rears. I would value your opinions please. Obviousley I will audition first but would apreciate a heads up and any other sugestions.

I should say I am looking at wireless, having earlier last year re-carpeted and redecorated and do not relish having to explain to my better half.

Many thanks in advance.

A friend of mine bought the Kef wireless system and I set it up for him the other day. It worked first time and sounds good. The receiver integrates well into the speaker stand once you muddle through the instructions and they look rather sleek.

The only concern I had about it was that the wires that attach the sender to the rear of the amp are rather flimsy. Not awful but they could easily have been chunkier.

Definitely recommend the system for your shortlist but bear in mind that you can buy the wireless system separately to use with any speakers and that you need plug sockets next to the rears to power them.

Hi,

I bought the 5005.2 wireless package about a week ago to replace my original 5005s. They're nothing like fully run-in yet but already I'm really enjoying them. Just like the originals, you need a decent amp to get the best from them. Your AVR 280 should do the job nicely. The included HTB2 sub is very good, although I personally still prefer the Velodyne SPL-800i I bought a while back to replace the PSW 2500 included with my original 5005s. Once the speakers are positioned properly (mine are wall-mounted but I've previously owned Kef's floor stands and can tell you that they work well) and the auto setup / EQ has been run on the amp, the sub disappears and you wind up with a sound that approximates a set of good quality floorstanding speakers. Clear deep bass with loads of detail in the mid range and treble - pretty amazing given their size. Out of the box they sound a bit harsh but they loosen up over time and improve dramatically. So if you demo them make sure you're not listening to a brand spanking new set, or you may well hate them.

I haven't used the included wireless kit, since I buried speaker cables in my walls ages ago, so I can't comment on how it sounds. It does look smart though.ÿ

Thanks for the advice, and I have just purchaced and so far very impressed.

Glad to hear that your happy. Just wait until they've run in a bit. They get better!

does anyone know how good the kef kit 580w is as it uses the wireless technology?

Hi,

I haven't heard it, but that's the top of the line model based on the 6000 satellites, isn't it? I'd be very surprised if the rest of the system isn't completely outclassed by the satellites. Performance wise you'd get much better results with a separate DVD player and amp, wired front speakers and maybe wireless rear speakers.
