Windows 8 and 3 terabyte hard disk how to set up as one partition?

Added a Western Digital Green 3 terabyte hard disk as a backup device, final link in the hopefully bullet proof mass storage system - it's in a removable caddy so I can even put it in a fire safe if I feel the need or there's a hurricane bearing down on us.
Trouble is I can't get Windows 8 to see it as one single partition.
Any ideas / tips / tricks?
Thanks

The drive needs to be converted to a GPT format rather than MBR. In Disk Management, you should just be able to right click on the drive and convert to GPT disk (this will delete anything on it).

Thanks for the tip.

In the best "leave it alone and look again in the morning" tradition Windows managed to see it as a single 3TB NTFS partition yesterday. Now my desktop PC is fully "backup-able". All I have to do is get the wife to fork out the extra 150 bucks to add a backup to the office server and my work is done (for now).
