Or should I be swapping some of that kit out?

how very graphic! I'd sooner get the centre speaker than the sub, and add to it in time so you eventually get a 5.1. Personally a 3.0 with strong speakers would give a better sound... That said, there's little point in a 7.1 multichannel amp if you don't intend to use it all.

Until I buy a place that I can hack the walls up in. I am not allowed anything more than the 3 front speakers and a sub. The wife detests wires.

Might have a look at the centre speaker, although I am restricted in space a bit (unless I wall mount it). I'll post a pic of my current setup tonight.

Thanks

JohnDuncan:And little point in a 5.1 amp if you're going to listen in stereo. What's your prime motivation, music or movies? And do you ntend to expand to 4.1 or 5.1+ in the future?

Its for films, I have my zeppelin for the music.

there are lots of clever ways to hide wires (even without hacking walls). You can go along the skirting board in those plastic housings etc. I got 4m extra of speaker cable, so I could go around the room on one side only, and have used cable-ties to make sure all cables are secure and taught - Anniversary XT are practically white too...

the 685s are a relatively large speaker - might be an idea to consider some (other-half friendly*) KEFs rather than large B&Ws ..

(I loathe that we consistantly blame "the wife" for our AV limitations - I very sensibly married the daughter of a hi-fi nut)

Lucky

Might address the 5.1 situation with her then, as long as I can hide the wires. It is a big room (4 Metres by about 7 Metres) so it can take the B&W

maybe I'll have a look at the MT30 package
