Do you think Apple will ever try to conquer the TV market? After been a Imac user for a couple of years the screens are just amazing and it makes me dream that one day Apple will produce some 50" TV sets with built in Apple TV. They would obviously be beautiful to look at as all Apple products are.

I doubt it. They're too focused on giving consumers what they want, like a tablet pc and computers free of the shackles of blu ray drives.

I shudder to think how much they would cost, given that their current 30" LCD Cinema displays can be bought for the very reasonable (sarcastic tone) price of £1169.99 (RRP £1299.99). http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/3337435/Apple-Cinema-Display-30-Widescreen-LCD-Monitor/Product.html

It may be an old model, so the prices may be lower now? I don't know since I haven't been into the Apple store.

Do you really think Apple produces the screens used in Imacs themselves?

Ofcourse not. Apple in CA doesn't produce anything. Their products are produced and assembled by the likes of Foxconn, and screens are sourced from Samsung, LG, Hitachi etc. This would apply to your Apple tv as well. Only the design and logo would be "Apple". If that rocks your boat, keep praying...

I appreciate that but why is the Apple screens so much better than anything else out there in the computer world then? I read somewhere that the new Imac have an even better ratio than a full HD 1080p TV

On the first part: Are you joking?

On the second: You lost me there...

Edit: Silly of me to even respond to this, you're obviously an aficionado, like so many users of this brand. I'll go hide under my desk now...

... and hopefully you'll stay there. Your kind of 'help' and sarcastic 'advice' is the sort we can all do without.

Andy.

I think you are referring to the resolution of the screen when you say better ratio than a full HD 1080p TV. The new iMac, although having a screen ratio of 16:9, has a pixel resolution of 2560 x 1440 which is not really any improvement over a normal full HD television as somewhere along the line any original 1920 x 1080 HD image has to be upscaled to fill that screen i.e extra pixels generated by clever software algorithms just like upconverting from SD to HD. And although it doesn't have an internal BluRay drive, the 27" iMac does have an HDMI input (on its mini Display Port socket) so you can plug a BluRay or other HD source into it and use it as a monitor. As for no fitted BluRay drive - perhaps that's a question which should be asked of Sony's Licensing department.

I have to say though that the iMac screens are impressive, but I'm sure someone will complain that there is not a matte option !

I can't see apple getting involved in making TVs either. Enough people have complained that they haven't fitted a tuner into the apple TV. But considering all the different transmission formats used around the world, the logistics and costs of making different versions which will work in all the different parts of the world is prohibitive and not really worth the effort or the hassle.

You haven't upset me, and I certainly don't hate Apple products, have quite a few of them around. But to say Imac's are the best in the computer world indicates a level of enamourism that happens to a lot of fellow Apple users and that frankly doesn't make them more reasonable to talk to, and yes, that does bother me a little.

Anyway, if the Apple tv doesn't come (I think it's unlikely), you might like similar cleanly designed tv's by Loewe (or B&O). Cheers
