I fetched the following of another post

I plugged the rear speakers in to the "surround left and right" and not the "rear surrounds...." .

As I intend to buy a 5.1 surround system soon why would you do this?

A 5.1 set-up consists of front left, front right, centre, surround left, surround right and subwoofer.

'Rear surrounds' are the extra rear speakers of a 7.1 set-up (or 6.1 set-up if rear surround singular).

Well you do need to connect the speakers to the correct terminals. If not connected to the correct ones things like the auto set up will not work..... Following the manuals set up/connection info to the Letter helps.
