If someone wants a very cheap amp he will find Class A/B, Class D, transistors, tubes and hybrid combinations abound. The same more or less holds for high end. In the entry-level to decent range of 300£ - 1000£ Class A/B on transistors is the choice of most offerings and seem to monopolize the awards (What Hi-Fi or otherwise). Is Class A/B on transistors the configuration that can with the same ease score high for every sound quality attribute someone may be inclined to, such as preference for soundstage, detail, bass, mids, highs etc?
