Why does What HiFi keep posting about football?

I wish What Hifi would stop posting about football. It seems like yet another attempt to take What Hifi down market. I can't remember the last time I found the magazine worth reading and adding content about football seems like another attempt to gain website viewers with content that is nothing to do with hifi. It seems as if the name "What Hifi" would indicate that the topics are about Hifi. What the hell has football got to do with this?

It is perfectly reasonable to talk about films and other things related to TV's but adding football is a stretch too far. What next, content about Coronation Street and Eastenders? Maybe it will start reviewing porn sites?

Maybe "What HiFi" should be renamed to "What IS Hifi?"

I don't know why What Hifi started reviewing stupid Bluetooth speakers that are as far from hifi as possible. Naim and Linn ok, but some of the cheap rubbish. If the people running What Hifi actually think that is Hifi then they have clearly lost the plot and lost all credibility.

Now I have a message filter called "Delete the What Hifi crap" which deletes the RSS feeds about football. Maybe it is just time to give up on everything to do with What Hifi. It was a good magazine when owned by Haymarket. Now it is just total rubbish that is content free like Stuff magazine.

It is just such a shame and the people now running it should be ashamed of ruining a UK standard.

You mean when they link to a football match you can watch on stream? What’s wrong with that. I like it.

Or do you mean they have started talking about it in their mags? I have been in lockdown since it started so I am currently missing what’s going on in its monthly mag.

WhatHiFi get commission for people clicking on their stories, If they got a commission from Coronation Street, Eastenders or Pornhub, then yes, it'll be next. You'll notice how mobile phones are often featured and there is at least one Cr-Apple product on the landing page, and has been every day this year. They need to make money and do so any way they can.

I'm unclear about what you mean about football. Are you seeing football adverts on what hi fi website? If so, it's because of cookies on your computer. I don't see any football adverts. Adverts have now become targeted and reflect our browsing history. This has nothing to do with what hi fi website.

There's a reason why what hi fi is the largest selling hi fi magazine in the UK. If they exclude Bluetooth speakers etc. they will lose a lot of readers. Hi Fi enthusiasts form a minority of readers and certainly not enough to keep the publication afloat for too long.

I think the OP means the articles like this one:

Or this one about F1 racing:

It's exactly as jjbomber said above. Especially now with ad revenue way down across almost every media platform due to the pandemic. :)

These were posted after the OPs question I think, perhaps not what he is seeing on the website.
He seems to have issues with Bluetooth speakers as well.
You can't please all of the people all of the time....

A classic symptom of being under the Future PLC umbrella.

I'm gonna reopen this thread. I still use RSS, and the WhatHiFi feed is poluted with "how to watch" entries. I just want the HiFi news that I enjoy on the News page. Any way to just get the WhatHiFi News in RSS?
