Why does my Onkyo turn itself off?

Hi there.

I have just bought an Onkyo 875 which is connected to B&W speakers. I have a DVD, Sky+ box and Apple TV going through it. The problem is that it keeps turning off. It is ok when it is just on the stereo setting, but change it to anything else like surround sound then after a couple of minutes it goes off. I have reset it like it suggests in the manual, but no change. Am I doing something wrong. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

...Sorry if this rather obvious but....you haven't inadvertently pressed the sleep button on the remote?

Suggests you either have a short somewhere in the speaker connections or the receiver is overheating in surround operation

Does the Onkyo have an overload indicator on the front panel?

Does it have a thermostat then to prevent damage to the components?

AFAIK yes there is a thermal cut-out
