Im getting close to reverting to my cassette walkman after whats happened with my itunes and ipod over the last couple of days! I added all my lossless files to itunes from their location on my Nas drive but when i did this its created double of a lot of the files in the original folders and in itunes these were 100% not in the folders prior as if i go to get info the create date is today any ideas why its done this? Thanks

Hi flairdj. Itunes will create doubles when anything from the smallest full stop is different from the original file, otherwise it will ask you do you want to replace the original. I ended up with doubles when I upgraded a whole load of tracks to the plus bit rate. The doubles were ones where I had renamed the track to put it into a compilation, or changed the artwork, anything. So if you have put a whole load of lossless tracks onto itunes to replace lower bit rates, it will not replace them.

Well this is a completely empty itunes library and just dragged and dropped from the hard drive to itunes as i say somehow by itself its creating doubles there must be a way of stopping it doing this?

I think it might be to do with import settings, for example if your import setting is for aac and you add an mp3 it will make a copy in aac as well so you end up with 2 files.Change the import settings to the same file type as you are adding and hopefully you will end up with only 1 file.

Completely empty itunes library drag and drop from nas. Its not doing it to every album thats whats confusing me and the double its creating is in aac.

Look in preferences.

Have you set the NAS as your library location?

Is a box ticked called "Copy files when adding to library"?
