Why are such a large section of the population against a FM signal switch off?

I'd like to keep FM because I like it for the hifi and various car radios and portables. I've never heard DAB in a true hifi mode, thoiugh I did once feed a Pure table radio into my hifi to see if it worked. We also have intermittent reception DAB at home, which is irritating.

Our newest car has a DAB radio which works very well, but so do the older FM ones. What I cannot recall is what use the FM ranges will be put to. Surely interweb radio is the natural successor?
