I think it's going to be a slow burner, everyone is excited about 3D but it will take time to see it do well as like most people have said... it's going to be very very expensive and there is so many ways 3D is being portrayed by many manufacturers, there is no set one standard, so the answer to your question...

NO, im not too interested in 3D at the moment, it will appeal to me when there is allot of 3D content either Live transmission or 3D blu ray movies and of course when it becomes affordable to own a 3D TV, 3D Blu Ray player and 3D movies etc.. but for now, i think i have spent quite enough to last me for a little while.

For the time being, allot of people will have a demo of the gear when its available and enjoy what they see but a little percentage will buy 3D, so it's a watch this space moment i think for now.

Hi,

I'm definitely not 'in'.

Can't see it catching on and think it'll have a small following possibly at the cinema but like most on here - I can't see it working too well in the home environment.

I note a lot have put "...because I've spent enough already...." or words to that effect. Does this mean it's a 'not yet'?

I fear this might be foisted upon us whether we actually want it or not.

Cheers,

Cofnchtr.

We all say no now, but I remember the first Beta or the first VCR or the first DVD and blu-ray, we all had the same answer, cant see it catching on.

I have a vcr and I am happy with it, or DVD, how can it get better, you want me to buy more stuff I already have... But yet we do.

Will have to wait and see.

The first gen, might not be all that great, but once they learn the mistakes and the general public gives feedback.. Then who knows?

biggest problem is technology in the home cinema sector i think has moved on far to fast recently and ppl feel conned that didn't understand and have been caught out - for example

laserdisc, hd dvd, freeview, freesat, how annoyed are ppl that bought 720p when full hd sets came out, lcd, plasma led ect the fact everyone is going to need new free view boxes when analogue has just been turned off then again when we switch to freeview hd, general bod on the street has no idea what half of this stuff means

the gap in time between vcr and dvd was big really as was the switch over to digital tv - these things have taken years to happen most ppl wont want to buy another new tv set after prob upgrading in only the last 2 years unless its forced upon us - ie you can only by 3d tvs moving forward

Well I bought into VCR as soon as I saw it, Imported a DVD player from the USA when they were first talked about in the hI fI Press , bought into Blu Ray for the HD audio.

Read this thread there are plenty of us,but not one here is going to be 3D early adopters ,the industry I feel has totally misread the market for this , it is/will be a novelty it has no merit

V2000 Betamax HDDVD and others

Why dont they learn

In my opinion, regardless of the technology (CRT, LCD, LED-LCD, Plasma, Projector etc), the most important thing is the content, irrespective of the platform on which it is presented. The evolution from VHS, to DVD, to HD DVD/Blu Ray and everything else has been down to improving the way we view content (ie 2d film) through enhanced picture and sound. A continuation of this would be higher resolutions (4k2k or whatever it is) as we each adopt larger screens, but 3d wants to change the way we view films, and in my mind, 3d isn't an improvement, it's a different experience altogether, and one I can only see being used, at least for the moment, in blockbuster type films. I'm certainly not embracing it with open arms, particularly after reading the following:

"The flagship C9000 (pictured) is the jewel in the range's crown, and - along with the C8000 and C7000 series models - comes with full compatibility with 3D, as well as 'RealD' technology that allows you to watch 3D images adapted from standard 2D sources."

Nope

The lack of thought that has gone into 3D technology makes me sick to the stomach...

No space for a screen to fill my field of vision...

Stupid glasses...

problems with viewing angles...

Looks dumb, even at the movies, in my opinion anyways. Ruins all cinematic prowess of movies...

Well someone likes 3D: Avatar looks set to break all box-office records. In fact, four of 2009's top 10 films (in terms of ticket sales) were 3D presentations.

Whether this enthusiasm for 3D at the cinema translates into a desire for it in the home, however...

Personally, I was firmly in the cynical, 3D doubters camp a year ago, but am being increasingly won over by the quality and experience of the kit - especially the products that are primarily an excellent flatscreen/BD player that just happens to play 3D if/when you want it.

Plus, the broadcasters as well as film studios are going big on 3D - this is going to happen whether the doubters like it or not!

Is this 'record' for the film in 3D only or for 2D + 3D?

Yep - that's the way I see it. The impact of the big screen ain't there for most of us.

That's what I said!! lol. If ya tell the people often enough, they'll eventually believe ya.

Cheers,

Agree, just can't see everyone coming home from a hard days work and banging on some goggles to watch a movie and relax. Ruins it a bit and for me makes more of a weekend/holiday novalty thing when you have too much time on your hands.

The biggest hurdle will be getting people to wear stupid, uncomfortable goggles. As long as this is an issue, it's not happening.

Several of the 'goggles' here on show here are neither stupid nor uncomfortable - they're nicely designed, lightweight products that'll suit a range of head-shapes (and slip over specs).... I'd reserve judgement until you've at least tried the gear in question!

Well they need to be better than the Panasonic ones I tried - all I needed was a snorkel and I was well away. I hate wearing normal glasses to watch movies as it is. If I ever move to contacts, the last thing I'm going to do is start wearing ANY sort of glasses!!
