Well it was really good to find out that my local independant record store (3 minute walk) was part of this and so I have done my bit and bought some Vinyl, which so far has included:

Gorillaz - The Fall (numbered LP)

An Introduction to Syd Barrat - This is a two album LP on 180g vinyl and consisiting of 18 tracks, including songs from Pink Floyd and 2010 remixes and had Dave Gilmour as Executive Producer.

However will be going back up there thisafternoon as there are other things I want ie....Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers and The Doors reissue :)

unfortunately I live an hours drive from Brighton which is my nearest participating record shop.

I did fancy the Foo Fighters 'Medium Rare' which I've manage to source from Tower Records in Ireland, don't know how as it's supposed to be 'in store only' so I will see what happens there but since I've paid up..............

Heading down to Ape Records in Tunbridge Wells this afternoon. Shame that Apollo Records (great vinyl shop in TW) closed down two weeks ago.

Not had a chance today, and no chance this afternoon - it's a big semi final party in our house. Come on you Reds!!!!!

However on Monday I want to go over to Bolton and visit X-Records, a participant in Record Store Day, and see what's on offer.

Anyway, I've been supporting my independent hi-fi dealer today instead.

Not sure if my local record store would have supported this but I did not have chance to go anyway. I might buy something in London next week if I see somrthing I fancy and it's not overpriced.

1) The Flaming Lips Heady Nuggs box set. (selections from). Sounds a whole lot different to the CDs I know so well. The vinyl tries to rein in the digitized hyper-compression of the CDs, and it just about works. Certainly on The Soft Bulletin and Yoshimi.

2) Nickelcreek's first album -

3) Follow Me Down - a Vanguard label compilation of crazily brilliant psych-rock

4) Radiohead's Supercollider - should have been on KOL. It's great.

5) Fleet Foxes' Helplessness Blues 12" - pop-existentialism. Lovely.

Unplayed, but still to come:

1) Vorwarts - a Mute label comp.

2) The Art of Noise debut LP

And appropriately enough,

3) Am I Going Insane - Midlake's Sabbath cover

Tell you what, they would look great in any collection, just a pity there are so many mercenaries out there buying these up just to flog on ebay. :(.

See the Technoweight thread.

I was playing my Al Green Greatest Hits LP to some (non hi-fi owning) friends last night, and they had to concede that the sound was awesome. It is a cracking LP mind, but the sound was just full on great. To my ears anyway!

Jason, how much was that Deftones LP? That's the one record I'd love to buy, unfortunately only four stores are participating in the RSD in Poland :- with the nearest one hundreds of miles away. Probably will have to hunt it down on fleabay.

Hiya mate it was £23.00 or something like that.....and I can say its absolutely brilliant :)

Im sure they will be appearing on ebay soon enough....some people have no scruples......they sell to make a profit and the real music fans lose out...oh well way of the world I suppose.

Doesn't your Good Lady Wife realise that a bit of retail therapy in a record shop is a known benefit to a dicky ticker ?!

Hope you get better soon so that you can get down to your local record shop next weekend ,

Nick

Sorry to hear about that GM, hopefully loads of good music will be good therapy.

I'm in a similar situation at the moment. Had my gall bladder taken out 3 weeks ago and they couldn't do it keyhole, so I'm taking it easy at home while this dirty great big cut heals up. The upside is that I've been on a long music listening session, and I'm playing tons of stuff I've not played in years. Marvellous!
