Has anyone compared these speakers?

Monitor audio silver 6,

kef r500,

epos k2.

Which of them are the most forgiven for poor rock recordings and also are the best sounding with rock and metal? The kef r500 seems to me has a little dark sound what i like but also not so dynamick. Perhaps a little boring with rock.

Haven't compared them, but I, like you, find the Kef R series a bit dull. The epos K1 I auditioned sounded pretty exact, but seemd to me like it could easily slip into harshness (the K2 might be different). A lot rate the MA Silver 6 very highly, and I think Focal Aria series are very very similar, so I would give those two a try (MA and Focal Aria 926).

I thought you were buying the NAD and Epos K2?

MA tend to be on the bright side. Arcam A19 maybe a be dull for rock? You could try Roksan Kandy K2 if you can find one, they are quite cheap now it been replaced.

Ive compared Kef r series v Monitor audio sivler 8

To me no contest - the kef r series is in another class -if you want to compare the r series to Monitor audio then use the gold series as a reference

To me the monitor audio silver 8 sounds horrible comparred to R 700 - so much more body.

Both speakers are revealing though so harsh material will sound harsh but i listen to heavy metal and rock and i never hear brightness thats unlistenable at all - but it all depends on your amp - so go for an amp that suits your taste then audition speakers to suit your taste.

I can comfirm the the nad amp will not sound bright

I've found a dealer who has the kef r500 and the Epos k2. Another dealer in the place has MA. Thuesday i can listen to these speakers and then finally will take a decision. I agree i think now it will be the kef or the epos. Amp i don't know. First the speakers. From what i read the kef is very amp. sensitive and need a big amp. The epos not.

I suspect that the MA silver 6's are likely to be the most exciting for rock and metal. Back a year or two I remember my dealer leaving the old RX6's off my demo list because they said they would be too much 'in my face' for the type of music I liked and the other kit I had.

I listened to the passive K2's (still no sign of the the active version being available?) for some time at this years Bristol Show. Although it's hard to tell properly in a hotel room, I would say that perhaps they maybe a little boring for rock music but actually quite forgiving for poor recordings - so possibly a good balance. Try to get an extended listen and play a range of tracks, but get them on home demo I found is the best way to know for sure.

If you like the K2's - there is a very good chance that the active version will make them more exciting - just a shame there is no news on when they will become available to demo.

I've asked Epos about the active module. This will be come in 3 months. This will cost around 1800 pounds.

I can also listen tuesday to Focal aria 926. For now i think:

1. Kef R500

2. Epos k2

3. MA Silver 6

4. Focal Aria 926

With respect, I wouldn't recommend the Monitor Audio silvers for rock or metal. This is coming from a bloke who has a pair of Monitor Audio Golds and several hundred metal albums. The silver range just can't do the genre justice - muddy, flabby. The Kef range or Epos could be fun but I wouldn't really look at Monitor Audio unless you are willing to go a range up.

Nevertheless, should the opportunity present itself, you should definately have a listen and decide for yourself.

Cheers,

Today i've heard the MA Silver 6 and 8. Indeed; horrible with rock and metal. My ears are bleeding!

Tomorrow i hope to hear the Kef R500 against the Epos K2. I expected one of them will be the winner for me.

TBH whatever speaker you choose will be compomised. Speaker designers don't sit there and think 'we'll make this range especially for hard rock'. Some speakers are more adept with certain styles of music, but much of that is down to the amplification.

The only way to know for sure is to dem a couple and see how they stack up.

How big is your room? Some of these are going to need a good bit of room to breathe, esp the KEF 500s. Are you wedded to these three only or can you try others out? If you find these brands too bright, you might find something like Pioneer's S71 floorstander a little smoother for your tastes. Not too widely available though, so while the trend in many current models are leaning towards a brighter sound, you do have some choices assuming you're prepared to look outwith your three choices.

Are the new MA Bronze 5 or 6 better for bad recordings (rock and metal) than the Silver 6 and 8? I mean warmer, forgiving en no bright highes? Has anyone heard them?
