I'm looking at a turntable. But which is the best? Rega or Project?

Or this one:

Good question I was also considering buying one. What is your budget.

Its seems the Project Genie 3 is good value in the UK at around £200 inc. cartridge.

I'd recommend the Rega RP1. In my experience Rega build quality is better than Pro-Ject's, certainly at the affordable end. The Genie 3 I had could sound good, but it never felt very well made. Like wise the Debut I owned.

if you can afford the RP3 then go for it, its an excellent TT for the money and sounds signifacantly better than the RP1 (i have owned both)

Lots on eBay for £349 without cart

They are slight comsmetic seconds direct from Rega, My RP6 was a seconds too, but can see nothing wrong with it

Also plenty of upgrade potential with the RP3

If you're talking about straight out of the box, there's a *** paper difference between the two. Both Pro-ject and Rega are very capable turntables within their price brackets. The main advantage, IMO, with buying Rega is their upgrade potential. Don't agree that Rega is better built, either: Both are designed with almost identical specs and build quality. They are both built to a budget. Simple and easy to use.

The choice will come down to which one takes your fancy. Either one will produce very good results. :)

Thats interesting because if you look at users opinions it seems the other way around with the Rega RP1 having noisy motor and hum problems, also mentioned by some of build quality down to the price.

Can I buy Rega direct from the factory as its not far from me?

Whats that cartridge like?

Not as good as ClearAudio :)

Yet to hear a duff Ortofon cart. Pro-ject and ortofon seem to pair well.

How does the Ortofon Alpha compare to the 2M Red?

As they are a similar price it'll boil down to which one takes your fancy. I've had numerous Ortofon carts over the past 30 years so I've nothing bad to say about them.

But is it wise in this age of streaming going back to vinyl? But i see at loudness war that my music, most rock and metal, on vinyl better is than the CD.

With streaming you got the same bad digital quality. The loudness war destroy it.

Just listened to a VPI Classic TT through a Ayon Tube Amp, it was fantastic. You could have a listen to this.
