If you like LCD, play games and watch mostly Full HD, the Sony would be great. ÿIf you watch sport and/or upscaled SD, I think that the Panasonic plasma would be a better choice. ÿIf you can afford it, there are still a few Pioneer 42" Kuros about (HiSpek offering free 5 yr warranty) that would be best of all IMHO.

I would go with any of the Panasonic or Samsung sets and avoid LCD.

Oh and even if you are a Gamer, Plasma is just fine for that as well.(as you may notice for my list of equipment I have a plasma and play lots of games!)

The Panny PX80 and PX80B are the same set (the PX8 or PX8B is a cheaper set). The Sammy A456 and A457 are the same, maybe cosmetic differences.

The LG 42PG6000 is the latest (not the 3000) .

The Panny is best buy 42" on this site and well recommended elsewhere. The LG runs it close.

I agree with most who have replied to this thread - if you are a hardcore gamer, LCD will probably suit you better. If not then the Panasonic TH-42PX80 is a brilliant buy, fantastic SD images (as most users would back up) and the sound as standard from the set is better than most of the other sets listed [in my opinion].

Good luck with your choice :p

I never understand the "if you a hardcore gamer get LCD" My kids and I batter our games consoles say about 4-5 hours a day and I use Plasma, so why would I get LCD not Plasma if playing games? And I dont want to hear all the guff about SCREENBURN!

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to give me some very good and worthwhile advice.

The panasonic wins. I thought it was the better one but needed it confirming by others more knowledgable.

Many thanks

Agreed DJ, I don't really get it either to be honest. One of the key things you need when playing games is good response times and good motion handling. It's often said if you want these to watch sports, plasma is best, but if you're gaming go for LCD. Doesn't make any sense to me! I can only assume it's because LCDs have long been associated with computers and people see games consoles as computers, but the two are generally doing two very different things...

DJ - the reason why I say LCD rather than plasma for gaming is because when games are played the backlight of the LCD makes the games seem to be more colorful as oppose to plasma. I work at a Currys store and although I don't really support what I said the majority of people I speak to (although they usually aren't technologically minded) think that the LCD is more vibrant.

This isn't necessarily my view, but just thought I'd put it accross... Then also the screen burn issues (which are almost irrelevant now) but they are also brought up.

Good choice on the Panny though!
