I'm just home demoing some Spendor D7s!

To be sure, I think I should also have a listen to Spendor A6r and perhaps a pair of Focal Aria 926 and 936 and also Monitor Audio Silver 8.

I did consider the the Focal 948 but these might be too large for the room which is 3.7m long x 3.7m wide x 2.1m high. Room has a sofa and a chair, two built in cupboards one each side of the chimney breast....house is an old cottage with thick walls and tiles floor with a large thick rug over the centre.

I would appreciate thoughts on the pros and cons of these.

Thanks.

Which amp do you intend to use? What are your sources and which kind of music do you like?

Out of your choices i would prefer the A6.MA Silver series and Focal Aria series sound pretty different. The A6r is more neutral and "serious speaker" and imo. a class above the other two if you have an amp which is up to them.

Maybe you would be better off with some standmount speakers as I think the MA S8 or a Aria floorstand will be too much (bass) for your room size.I didn´t demo the Spendor A6r in a smaller room like yours,so I can´t say anything about how they could behave but I guess they would give the most balanced sound in comparison to the other two options. These three brand sound pretty different though.

I agree with Esra, in that your Amp and Source are crucial in knowing what to advise.

Spendor and Focal are opposide ends of the tonal spectrum.

If you like what the Spendors do, look at brands like Sonus Faber, Harbeth, Vienna Acoustics and Opera.

If you want a more neutral, more forward presentation, look at Focal, MA and Triangle.

If you want something in the middle, look at Kef R Series, Proac, ATC, PMC and GamuT
