which speakers to pair with teac reference 500 system?

I've got a TEAC Reference 300 mkIII system, and I've got it running with B&W 686 speakers. These speakers aren't the best at low frequencies, but you can drive them pretty hard, and they have a very smooth midrange and treble. I find they are best with classical, jazz, and vocal recordings, although you may want some more punchy speakers if you often listen to heavy metal/techno etc. I find they are also good with rock music.

If you've got a little more cash, then £350 will get you the 686s bigger brother, the B&W 685s. These speakers are better in out and out sound quality - but you get what you pay for!
