One of the great things about the TEAC and similar, is the ease of choosing and fitting a cartridge. The Oyster is such a decent choice that a simple stylus change once the existing one has worn, may be all you ever feel inclined to do. If you eventually start trying different cartridges, there is good compatibility with a wide range, and the detachable headshell makes the swap easy. It also means that if you break the cartridge leads it just needs a new headshell rather than a complete arm rewire.
This is where Regas have a big negative. They are designed such that they need a low profile cartridge, unless you want to get involved with placing shims underneath the back of the arm. Their own cartridges are very variable, and don't have replaceable styli. As with any one piece arm, changing the cartridge is slightly nerve-wracking, because if you break a wire, it's dealer support time. Thankfully, Ortofon had the insight to launch a low profile version of their 2m range last year, especially for Rega models and similar. I've just swapped my dull Rega Elys2 out for an Ortofon 2mr Red, and it was easy to fit and align, sounds better, tracks better, and when the time comes I can simply replace the stylus with a Red one, or with the next step-up Blue.
