£100 budget, and ive found a few speakers out there and i have no idea which ones are the best i would preferably like them to be 3 way as i listen to alot of bass but its not overly important. I have a pair of LS 58 kenwoods for front stereo, and bose interaudio 2000 XL for surround, which one should i replace? If they are bookshelf speakers and front speakers i would also need to include a speaker stand under the budget. A few speakers i have seen: mission 780 (£50) m71i (£15) KEF Cantor III (£60- negotiable) wharfedale diamond pro (£39.99) diamond 8.1 (£65) mordunt short m20 (£99) tannoy eclipse one (£79) diamond 9.0 (£40) b&w dm601 S3 (£60) TANNOY 631 (£37) wharfdale CRS 3 (£50)

I have no idea what ohms or any of that means im just looking for what speakers will be best for bass, thank you.

My reciever is the denon avrx520bt

What you need is a fast and punchy active subwoofer for music (not flabby shaker for movies). Lots of them second hand on ebay under 100 quid.

Otherwise look into Cerwin-Vega speakers.

Small speakers = small sound. You can't cheat arround it. Big boys like these make big sound. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/cerwin-vega-E-710-speakers-/112464744534

CV's can be found between 100-200 GBP if you hunt them in patience.

Borrow 50 quid and get these Tannoys http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Tannoy-DC2000-Floorstanding-speakers-in-black-/253061537573 They are very good.

Even these 632s are nice, but not as nice + they need stands. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Tannoy-632-90w-Speakers-Pair-/272766843477

The tannoys are way too far location wise, the 632s could be a good option though

I had the 631, 632, DC1000, all sound very nice. The 632 has surprisingly large sound for it's size. With a sub they should be good enough. If you are patient you can buy their original factory stands for cheap on ebay or gumtree.

Video of the DC2000 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NkFShVn9Ip0 DC stands for Dual Concentric, there is a horn loaded in the middle of the top driver, so it's a 3 way. Good bass.

Should the 632s replace my kenwoods or Bose? Or should I save up another hundred for a nice second subwoofer ?

Use the new speakers as front L/R, the rest as surround + your sub.

For music Front L/R are most important. For movies it's the Center speaker.

Actually the way I sit on my computer for music the surround speakers are more ideal it's hard to explain but should I get rid of the kenwoods or the bose, the remainder will act as the front l and r for movies and basically the surround l and r for multi ch stereo music

Wharfedale Diamond 9.1 is comparable to the Tannoy Profile 631. The 632 is bigger, 2.5 times heavier, bigger woofer which means more sound power.

clicky

He's only dented a dust cap (no harm) and will take a while to find the grilles but ... !!!

Ideal. 10" woofies should do the job nicely.

Go collect and check they work. (Help him find the grilles!)

95dB !

Woah good catch! Those would be seriously loud. Not sure how much bass would come out but they will go nuts on a few watts. The Denon would be happy.

The crossovers are due for a recap, considering the age (1978). But it's an easy job. The xover is accesible.

They are huge, for PA use only. You want something like these.

Typically all those budget PA/DJ subs sound like ****, with loud one note bass. Aim for more hifi brands like Infinity, JBL, B&W, Tannoy, Canton etc.
