Hi olneyben. Between the two speaker stands I would go for the heavier one as I have found that weight helps damp vibration. However, I saw in the pictures that the Soundstyle stands had spikes, but the Gales do not. If that is the case go Soundstyle as it will be easier to get them level and secure. Shove the spikes right through the carpet. Or if you have a wooden floor rest the spikes on a granite chopping board from Asda, or four 2p pieces. Which ever one you get also buy blue tac to secure speaker to stand. A lump in each corner will do.

As for stands, none of them. I would go wood due to its better damping. Head to Ikea and get a nice wooden rack. Buy as solid as possible and not the cheapest flimsy, wobbly, free standing shelf thingys.

For racks, I'd have a look on ebay, there are plenty of options if you are happy to pickup

I got a nice Jual glass and metal one from standanddeliver recently, which is fine, the nice quadraspire wooden ones are too expensive.

If you are handy with a saw, you can make a lack rack from the lack coffee tables, the oak ones and spikes off ebay from manacor

EDITED BY MODS - but nice attempt at getting round House Rules will give you some ideas.

i had the gale stands a couple of years ago and went off them very fast you can fill all 3 tubes so you can make them very heavy but as mentioned no spikes so thay dont sit that well.and the finish was a pain couldnt wipe them with a duster as thay are rough matt finish needed to use a brush

ive not had the sound styles but thay looked at least a nicer finish.when i brought my gale stand i think thay cost £29 and i think the sound style cost about £69 witch was the deciding factor.

you should check sevenoaks sale section somtimes thay have discounted partingtons thats what i have now and thay are great if not you could try ebay thay always have a couple of sets for sale and probably pay about half price.

as for the racks i have the richer sounds one and its very good for the money .the tougest thing to find for my setup was the stand i saw alot of nice ones but for big money and it was getting one that would fit all my items on so in the end i went for that one kinda as a stop gap but to be honest im happy with it for now its fairly solid and feet are adjustable and it looks ok

In that case Soundstyle over Gale as it will be easier to get a level and vibration free sound wioth spikes than weight, especially as the Gales are not that substantial in the first place.

I can only speak through personal experience rather than actual comparison, but the Soundstyle (Z2ii) totally transformed my set up and on that basis I can't recommend them highly enough.
