I have permission to 5.1 the sitting room, provided it's not too noticeable..

Should I head for a Cambridge Minx setup or something else? (to go with a marantz 1601)

I would have a listen to a few if I was you, something like the kef 2005.3 or T101 package, Monitor Audio R90HD and B&W MT25/30 along with the minx.

cheers both, the T101s look a bit too big to be approved but the B&Ws look good! Anyone listened to them alongside the Minx?

Yep - hence the Minx speakers (superb though they are, and noticeably smaller than the B&Ws) being a four-star product as opposed to the five-star, Award-winning MT-25 package

If budget permits, what about the KEF 2005 system? Relatively unobtrusive on their stands if your decor is darker. if you can spend a little more, the KHT 8005 is impressive and does away with the need for three separate speakers at the front..

Do you have a top budget in mind?

thanks again all. If I can spend less than a grand then it'd be fine...

So markjaspis suggestion of the R90HD could be worth checking out.
