That's an issue for prospective purchasers to take up with CRT.

As mentioned earlier, and many times before, we only test products that you can try before you buy - either from being able to audition in a shop or on a (full) money-back guarantee home-trial basis.

That's fine but your comment above about CRT charging 20% to return an item may be misleading with regard to product and service covered by the distance selling regulations.

Would have been nice to see a review, but I've already ordered my Oppo BDP-83. Having said that I bought a Denon DVD 2500BT on the strength of the WHF review and I thought it was very poor value for money (and that was at £600 not the reviewed £800). On the other hand I'm happy with the rest of my kit and most have that has come on the strength of WHF advice.

Anyone unsure about their rights under the Distance Selling Regulations can find further info at www.consumerdirect.gov.uk or if you can't find the specific answer there is also telephone support 08454 040506.

Some more specific info re the point discussed earlier ( http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk/after_you_buy/making-complaint/template-letters/dsr_letter/)

"Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000 - template letter to return goods bought by distance methods
Use the following template to write a letter informing the trader of your wish to return the goods and receive a refund.

When you buy goods or make a contract for certain services by distance means, e.g. over the internet, by telephone, by mail order, etc., your contract is governed by the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000.

The Regulations generally give you the right to change your mind and claim a full refund (including postage) up to the point where you receive the goods. After you receive the goods you have 7 working days (beginning the day after you receive the goods) to inspect the goods and, if they are not suitable, return the goods for a full refund.

Certain goods maybe excluded from this legislation please contact Consumer Direct for further clarification: 08454 04 05 06
You must take care of the goods whilst they are in your possession, and either return them or make them available for collection by the seller. The seller may charge you the cost of collecting the goods, or you may have to pay the return postage if this is stated in the terms and conditions. If you cancel the order or return the goods within the time limit, the trader must refund your money in full, without a restocking fee, within 30 days of your cancellation.

If you wish to cancel, you should contact the trader immediately by telephone or email, and follow this up in writing (get proof of postage / or send recorded delivery, keeping a copy for your records), sending the letter within the time limit.

This template is to be used for guidance and may not suit your specific situation. If you require more detailed advice & guidance, please call Consumer Direct on 08454 040506"
