Hi,

I was planning to go for a Budget amp (marantz PM6002/CA540Av2) + Budget bookshelf (MS902i/DALiLektor2). But I have been seeing lot of reviews for Audio Engine A5 in the net as well as in What hifi website. After hearing a lot about about Audio Engine A5s as well as its pricing I am little bit confused on which option to go for. Unfortunately in my place I cannot audition AudioEngine A5. So I need to buy it without auditioning it.

So can somebody advice me which will be a better option.

I am planning to use it for both TV as well as music (Ipod as well as CDs) .

Hi jerin. If you have trouble auditioning and since there has been no responses to your post, others may have had the same problem to. All I can advise is that both suggestions will sound good, going by reviews and you should maybe consider other issues such as space and practicality (Audio Engine wins) against future upgradeability (amp and speakers win). If your future plan is to have a PC based system as your prime setup, then amp and speakers is the way to go. If your plan is to have your PC as a secondary setup, then the Audio Engine is the way to go. I would love a set of Audio Engines to plug into the laptop when I am in the spare room/study, but money has limited me to Logitech usb speakers. Meanwhile I am saving like mad to get a fully PC based main system.

Hi idc,

Thanks for the reply. Just curious to know whether the audio engine will have the same audio quality as the budget seperates. coz I am mainly planning to use either of these [AE5 or amp+speakers] to be used with my music system than with PCs.

The quick answer is no, they won't sound as good as the separates you mention, but then they're a fraction of the price.

Do they sound brilliant for £200? Yes.
