if you had to put philips, samsung, sony and panasonic in an order, who tops the manufacturers list if say you took each manufacturers top 4 products for quality, picture, reliability etc. who comes out on top. Last year philips seemed to be the manufacturer to have. And for all the complaints i read here, samsung dont seem to have to many ? at a guess i'd rate them currently as

1. samsung 2. Panasonic 3. Sony 4. Philips

what are your opinions

you are kidding max ? right................

well, i think the question is a bit vague, i mean, if it was broke into different catagories, like..

best picture quality regardless of price..

best picture quality per pound..

best value for money brand..

most reliable brand..(although i think this may be hard to prove)..

anyways, from what ive seen, id answer..

panasonic..

panasonic..

lg..

have no idea..

Actually, joking aside, LG have come a long way from the old budget "Goldstar" days. I'd say Panasonic have picked up the ball dropped by Pioneer but at the moment LG are the only company making progress with OLED - it's still the early days but it's progressing rapidly and once the 40"+ screens come, if the quality is as expected and price reasonable then they could well become the front runners...

Quality products? Philips without a doubt. Innovative, willing to take a risk, leaders in design, not followers. Not including Sony the rest of the list are not in the same class in my opinion.

It's like comparing a Skoda to a BMW.Yeah Skoda make good solid cars and share the same components as an Audi or a VW. Would still rather be driving a BMW though.

Not sure how serious Philips is about TVs, though, considering that Funai sells Philips branded TVs in North America (Philips sold its licensing rights to Funai which means that Funai will make TVs & sell under Philips brand).

Even JVC is following the same route.

Hmmm good point big boss. In my opinion they produce quality products in general from lights to foodmixers. If they want to make a fast buck in the usa then so be it. Cheapens them slightly in my opinion but needs must. I just think in general they are a very innovative company and would rather spend some money on some philips gear that has a bit of panache than a generic, run of the mill product. I have also owned Loewe and B&O in the past and I think they have all been worth it in spite of the price premium.
