Do I upscale to 4k in my player, in my receiver, or on my display?
And why?

and I'm sure the answer was leave it to your TV to do the upscaling.

Sorry but I don't have the reason why. *unknw*

but I'm sure the usual suspects will around later.

Possibly depends on the links in the chain for example the oppo are really good.
or just simply use the one that looks best to you.

I doubt you will get better 4k upscaling from an av receiver compared to an oppo 4k player.

If you have a panasonic display and panasonic 4k player then you have some options to achieve the best image.
There is a you tube video from hd tv test demonstrating this

Whenever anyone posts up something like this I am reminded of that snooker match when the late great snooker commentator Ted Lowe said:

Griffiths is snookered on the brown, which, for those of you watching in black and white, is the ball directly behind the pink.

🙂

For those of you reading in black and white the correct link is the one down below in blue

Correct Link

Try all 3 but from reports from others the player will probably give the best results. TV upscalers are not usually as good.

The guy who calibrated my TV recommended the Tv to always be the main upscale and set my av reciever to pass through the signal, and the BD player to have all the processing switched off.

I did a video on the quality of the upscaling on the Oppo 203.

If you engage upscaling in my Sony VW500 projector it looks better but does seem to add noise to the picture.

As you upscale the image in the oppo it just looks damright better and more UHD like.

I compared the upscaled image to the UHD image at the end.

Its not perfect to see it like this but you can still see it

I think receiver would be best as they usually have best upscaling chips?
