Hello guys,

I am thinking to buy an Ipod classic 80G and a Ipod univeral dock (with the remote control) to hook up to my Onkyo 515. Any better choice or comment? Which cable would be good to hook up the dock to the stereo? Thanks

Nope, seems pretty sensible to me. The 160gig is much better value, but the 80gig is a bit more sveldt and cool, which may or may not be important to you. The Universal dock is fine in the context of the 515, though the headphone socket on it is a slight pain - means you're stuck with headphone-to-jack cables, which are (a bit) harder to come by. I use a Belkin for about a tenner.

Thanks John. Regardless the storage of 80G, is there any difference between 80 and 160G (sound quality etc)? Does that kind of connection cable effect the sound quality at all?

No, they should sound exactly the same - the 160gig is a bit fatter and heavier is all.

And yes, cables can influence the sound, but in budget systems it's less important, so a reasonable quality cable such as I describe is perfectly adequate.

Thanks John. I just red a few bad reviews about the dock. Now just wondering should I spend a bit more money to buy Onkyo dock A2X? In your tests, the Onkyo just got 4stars. Is that worth upgrade or just waste the money?

The Onkyo dock is better than the Apple Universal Dock - just not as good value. I think in that set-up it'll also mean you can use your Onkyo remote control to control the docked iPod (that's certainly how it works with other Onkyo kit), but that's worth double-checking when you buy.
