Well if you're also looking to subscribe to the magazine, we're offering a free Wireworld Chroma 6 HDMI cable to new subscribers - all the details on p34-35 of our new issue, which will hit the shops by Thursday

Hi,

I own a Chord Active and Wireworld Chroma 6. I also own Thatcable and QED HDMI leads.

Have found that the Wireworld works brilliant from Sky HD to TV, yet Chord was good too, just a little short for my new TV stand set up.If i had to choose one id have the cleanliness and control of the Wireworld. Tried all leads with my BD player yet found the Thatcable's produced the best edges and motion control, yet the same Thatcable cable really underperforms when used with my Sky setup. 'Go figure!!' However, shorter is definetly better.

Suggest you look at where your set up would gain the most benefit ( motion, contrast etc) and read the WHF reviews for a suitable cable.

Lastly, don't get caught up with the 'digital signal' thing. Opinion all the same but always good to hear from those who own more than one cable and have made numerous comparisons themselves. There are lots of good helpful users of these forums.

Think you should take Clare's advice and subscribe though, great deal.

I had a Chord Active 1.5m when i subscribed but images were a bit blurry, cable wasn't boxed, recieved in an old plastic bag! Took me several phone calls to get it though, just kept never arriving. May have been a 'returned/seconds cable so should have followed up. Didn't return cable but should have done.Wasn't until somebody brought me a 0.75m one that i realised that the Active cable is actually very, very good. Don't think this was the magazines fault though, just someone at subscription making a poor decision after numerous phone calls from myself.

There was a very good thread which covered both sides of the argument pretty well recently, but it seems to have disappeared.

Shame, really, since it counters the above post's arguments extremely well. Basically there's no reason to assume any cable that meets the HDMI standard will behave differently, and this is eminently testable.

Bit concerned you got a cable in that condition: can you email us with your name, address and subscriber number, and referring to this thread, and I'll flag this up to our publishing team

Grottyash and OP,

You may be referring to the thread I started a few weeks ago. Find all of it here: http://community.whathifi.com/forums/t/578216.aspx

I went for the Chord Silver Active Plus. Bought it on the Bristol Show with a nice discount. I am truly happy with the lead mainly because of the excellent audio qualities. If you don't really care about ethernet, ARC or 4K colour try to spot the predecessor that's on the market for some 40 quid. As long as it handles highspeed the lead will do....

To Grottyash, yes, they do. Poor audio qualities on the previous lead (Prowire HDX) made me swap that one for the Chord....

I have a Wireworld Chroma 6, a QED Performance HDMI-E Super Speed and the HDMI cable that comes free with a Sky HD box. I'm viewing on a Sony 52HX903 with a Pioneer LX73 receiver and LX54 Blu-Ray.

My personal experience is that I don't notice any difference between the video and audio quality provided by these cables. The drawback of the Chroma 6 is that it's not very flexible so routing can be more tricky and the cable falls out of its socket quite easily. I wish they'd design these cables to really lock in place rather than just sit in place.

That Cable at £5.00 is all you need. It will works just as well as fancy priced cables.

Hi,

Thanks for everyones input. Has anyone used the chord supershield - not the next one up? As the supershield is on special at the moment in Aussie for $79 down from $100? The wireworld was $150 down to $100 for 1m?

Cheers

Hi, I've switched recently to the Super Shield and found it a good improvement over my old QED P cables. I recently tested two blu-ray players (one connected via a QED P in the front socket and one through the Chord Super Shield in the back.) and found one's picture and sound much better than the other (The Chord Super Shied connected Player). Then after having to switch players to check a faulty disk, I expected there to be a quality drop only to find that there was very little difference when both went through the Super Shield. The Super Shield also fits really well as the head is die cast. So I'd say it was a very good cable that provides very good picture and sound quality & is a good upgrade over my old QED P cables. The QED P cables are about 3 years old so are not the latest speck. Hope this helps.

I If you are determined to pay such a ridiculous amount for a HDMI lead then ask the supplier if they will refund your money if you don't see a difference from the cheap cable, and dont accept any nonsense about burn in times. If they won't give you this guarantee then dont go near them.

Hi Jase,

Thanks for your input, that was helpful. I bought the chord today and the guy actually said he preferred the chord over the wireworld as wireworld may pick up some more interference as the chord is better sheilded. The only issue is that my amp dosent have hdmi inputs only my bluray and tv, so hopefully it wont affect the sound as the amp may not read the digital signal. I will test it tonight.

Cheers

Steve.
