Just bought my new Blue Ray player (The Sony BDP - S350) - which film to play 1st though. Prefer crime thrillers, any suggestions as to which film I'd enjoy and be able to test the player with at the same time?

The Dark Knight or The Bourne Trilogy? No, Zodiac if you haven't seen it - superb!!

Crime thrillers... hmmm - any examples of films you like, this will help.

As well as Zodiac, Eastern Promises and LA Confidential might fit the bill and are great Blu-Ray transfers. Also A History of Violence.

Quantum of Solace will test your system, great transfer in both picture and sound.

The Departed is supposed to have an excellent picture on blu-ray - its also a great crime-thriller

Agreed.

personally I thought The Departed was rubbish and yet another example of the Hollywood machine ruining a great film in Infernal Affairs which is fantastic and need not have been messed with (maybe some people can't keep up with subtitles??)

Best looking film seen this year must be The International . Unbelievably sharp and three dimensional , the night time shots of cities and buildings are even better than those in the Dark Knight . Some of the film was shot on large format cameras , although no-one seems to be making a fuss about it . It's certainly a thriller .

Agreed that most remakes are inferior to the original but not always the case (The Fly's as good an example as any)

I thought the setting and atmosphere transferred well and it was a high point for DiCaprio after the average Gangs of New York where he was completely outclassed by Daniel Day-Lewis

There's a few classic crime blu-rays available now - Goodfellas, The Untouchables and of course Godfather trilogy (all are said to be good transfers)

The Pirates trilogy has an amazing PQ. Most sites state it as reference material. Plus any pixar film will look fantastic.

Elite Squad is very good (portuguese subtitles).

I thought the departed was a good film (don't know about the blu ray). I agree that the Infernal Affairs trilogy is better though. What about the other 2 films - according to wikipedia a sequel may be on the cards at some time, but sounds nothing like the parts 2 & 3 of IA trilogy.

I would say the new Batman films and Iron Man is very good. Was sat watching "Bolt" with the kids yesterday and that was fantastic!
