Which DAC to use (Amp or DVD)?

Hi there I have an Onkyo SR605 reciever and a Denon 1940 DVD.

I keep hearing that the DAC maybe better on the Receiver, so this is my first question? The second question is, if this is the case, how do I set it up so I can use the DAC on the receiver instead of the DVD doing all the work?

I also have a Marantz CD6002 CD player........I use it in pure direct mode (on the receiver), and therefore am assuming that's the best way to set-up?

Cheers

Paul

Hey there

I have the DVD connected via QED performance HDMI. The question is whether the Digital to Analogue conversion should occur in the Receiver or the DVD player?

Setting the dvd player to output 'PCM' would mean its decoding it (If it can). Otherwise the receiver is decoding (And id say the receiver is almost certainly going to be better at decoding personally)

Youll know which is on when a dolby digital film is on. The receiver will say DOLBY DIGITAL if its decoding.
