which Bluray player would you recommend for £300 ono??

Both Pioneer BDP-51FD & Sony S550 are old models. They've been replaced by Pioneer BDP 320 & Sony S560. The S560 is coming to UK this month.

Check these players:

All of the above players are good. I personally don't see a point in Panasonic BD80 when BD60 is equally good. Theoretically, the sound on BD80 is a bit better (controversial).

PS3 is a versatile player which offers excellent value for money (both 120GB & the new 250GB models).

Pioneers are renowned for their players which are considered superior to the likes of Panasonic & Sony, although that comes at a price.

Take your pick, you won't be disappointed with any of the above players.

For PQ alone, all the above players are not much different from each other for blu-ray discs. For DVDs, Pioneer players are supposed to be better, but other players are decent DVD upscalers as well.

thanks alot, very informative. I read the review of the pioneer 320 sounded impressive. for a bluray player i dont mind buying a wee bit more for the right model.

you can get the pioneer BDP-LX71 for £380 but couldnt find a review. seems gonna take awhile to research it seems..

You might want to hang on for our Awards issue, on sale October 20th, when all our Best Buy Blu-ray players at a range of prices will be revealed.

good advice thanks.

ive havent been lulled into buying a Bluray player but the 'itch' has finally began. maybe its the Chord Active HDMI on order which triggered the thought or the fact my pretty Sony LCD isn't getting the source material it deserves smiles.

ive got the mag on order so look forward to the pending issue!

btw are there many 'out of the box multi-region Blu-ray players on the market'??

There are a few retailers selling blu-ray players which are multiregion for DVDs only out of the box. The manufacturers are not allowed to sell multiregion players for blu-ray discs due to European legislation.

Richer Sounds & Multiregion Magic sell players which are multiregion for DVDs

http://www.richersounds.com/products/home-cinema/home-cinema-separates/blu-ray : The ones with 'MR' are the multiregion players.

I just noted on Richer Sounds website that Sony S560 is now available! It's got Wi-Fi.

Multiregion Magic also does hardware modification of some of its players to make it multiregion for blu-ray discs as well, but they're quite expensive.
