Which AVR to go with MT-60D

Hi all

After looking at different style speaker packs I have decided to order the B&W MT-60D set. The problem I have is that I am based in Australia and the PV1D has only just been made available here. As a result there is only one retailer near me who has the kit set-up and they only sell one type of AVR.

I have always liked Pioneer and Yamaha AVRs, but understand from the review on the MT-60D kit that Yamaha may be the better way to go. I was looking at the RX-A1020, but have also been offered an RX-A2020 at a very good price.

I am very keen to get people's thoughts on the new Yamaha range, to the extent you have heard them. In particular, the RX-A1010 got excellent reviews so was wondering whether the view is that the A1020 is an improvement or otherwise. Also interested to understand people's thoughts on whether the A2020 would be a worthwhile step-up, or whether I would just be wasting my money given the speaker selection.

Thanks

Hi stang65

In my experience B&W speakers work a treat with Yamaha AV amplification :rockout:

Btw, i've not heard Yamaha's new Aventage RX-A1020 or the Aventage RX-A2020 AV receivers yet however if the differences between the RX-A1020 and RX-A2020 are similar as was with the RX-A1010 and RX-A2010 then (and particularly if you can get the RX-A2020 even closer to the RX-A1020's retail price) the RX-A2020 should be a no brainer :)

All the best

Hi Rick

Thanks for the feedback – really appreciated. The RRP in Aus on the A1020 is higher than in the UK (not unusual I am afraid), but interestingly, the RRP on the A2020 is lower. Our difference in price between the two models is effectively £200 (from what I can see on UK RRP this is £500). I have been able to get this down to more like £100 difference, but just wasn’t sure if it was simply a waste of money based on the speakers.

Thanks for that - glad to hear from a fellow Melbournian on this forum - however pricing is not really my issue (currently able to get around 35% off RRP which seems ok). I am keen to understand if I am aiming for the right AVR for these speakers, given the only place in town I can find with them set-up is Clef and they are running them on a Marantz NR1602, which really didn't seem to do them justice (at least I am hoping that is the case).
